A great series from Jussi Adler-Olsen with excell

A great series from Jussi Adler-Olsen with excellent narration by Steven Pacey. This episode in the adventures of Carl Morck and the odd characters in Department Q, the cold case department at Police headquarters in Copenhagen, is a must read. Amid the usual wry sarcasm and entertaining back stories this book becomes a genuine page turner as Assad's past and former identity emerge and his family is found to be in mortal danger. This one went straight into the top tier of my library.

What a cracker!!!

What an amazing story and what beguiling characters Jussi Alder-Olsen has created. I need a good whisky after that ending!!!

Something is Right Again in the State of Denmark!

The headline news of course is that Pacey is back. Adler-Olsen and Stephen Pacey have been one of the great combinations on Audible since very early on for me and I suspect many others. To have them re-united is without question a good thing. For sure, the nature of these books has darkened over the past couple of volumes but even if the humour and zaniness has reduced this is Pacey's role and only he can bring these characters to perfect life now.

Last time out we got an incredible story based around Rose, this time it's Assad as an International story has implications for the whole of Department Q but more importantly goes to Assad's very core. Finally, the mystery behind the man is revealed, the tortured soul that has lurked beneath the camel jokes and his own special brand of wisdom comes to the fore. As much tragedy, heartbreak and pain as would befit the mighty bard himself.

The story is written from quite a number of points of view, Assad, a down on his heels journalist, an old enemy, a young man struggling mentally among many of the normal ones. It starts on the Spanish coast, reveals much of Assad's past and moves across the continent. In common with the previous book it does seem a bit darker for the most part, we see into Assad rather than just observing him and it makes him seem quite different, deeper, more tragic. So we do lose some of the comedy again but like the Rose story before it I loved it though I did want more of Carl's crazy interactions with his ex-wife and his zany household.

Above and beyond anything though with Pacey's return there is now undoubtedly something right again in the state of Denmark!

Let Joy Be Unconfined Steven Pacey Is Back!!!!!!

Oh how wonderful it was to see that Steven Pacey was again back reading Department Q books after the debacle of the last two being narrated by others. I did actually try to listen to the first offering but had to return it after the first two chapters and I had all but given up on Department Q forever....until I saw I saw they had Steven back again. Ridiculous as it might sound, it made my day!
I popped it straight into my basket and downloaded it. Absolutely brilliant story. So lovely to hear how the characters have progressed in my absence. Now all I'm hoping is that Mr. Pacey will be asked to re-record the previous two books that he was absent for!

Another one quick......

Love these books but ohh thank goodness Steven Pacey has returned what a difference a narrator makes as I would not have downloaded it if Saul Reichlin continued. This book is a little more emotional than the others due to subject matter and Assad’s past life is finally explained. Not quite as much humour which I enjoy but nether less an excellent listen.

He’s back!

I know I am saying what everyone else has said but what a joy to have Steven Pacey back. Karl, Assad, Rose and Gordon have come back to life. Maybe not enough camels but we have all been waiting for Assad’s back story and now we have it. I hope there will be another and please, please it must be read by Steven. It’s been a joy to listen to during these very strange times.

Outstanding

So glad Stephen Pacey has returned to narrating this series. The characters I fell in love with in the first few books are back and the storyline does not disappoint. Buy this, go back and listen to previous books in the series if you haven't done so already and hope Stephen Pacey gets to narrate the previous two books in the Department Q set as these were a let down. (Nothing wrong with the story but the narration....yuk) Outstanding series buy and enjoy

it wasn't t as i had hoped...

I had waited ages for this book to arrive. pre ordered months in advance and awaited with great anticipation. ( having bought the others in the series from the site) Somehow the dynamic pace wasnt there... a beleaguered department q team ground their way through Asad's past. Even the fantastic narration didnt pull the story together. ordinarily I listen to these books numerous times. This time that won't happen.

Not the best in the series

I almost felt that this was written by someone else! I didn't enjoy the storyline, the relationships between the department members seemed to be totally different, and the story was rather muddled, hopping around to different times and places.

Disappointing!

Department q is back on form

I had been disappointed with the last book in the series - but this one makes up for it. Story plus the return of Steven Pacey as narrator delivered a great intense tale.
There are two stories running along side each other - each as good as the other - and a few camel quotes from Assad
An excellent book
