Well hello to you dear audiobook browser. Now I have your attention it would be rude if I didn't tell you a little about my literary feast. So, here is the thing: is it just me or does anyone else find that adulthood offers no refuge from the unexpected horrors, peculiar lack of physical coordination and sometimes unexplained nudity, that accompanied childhood and adolescence? I am proud to say I have a wealth of awkward experiences - from school days to life as an office temp - and here I offer my 18-year-old self (and I hope you, too, dear listener) some much needed caution and guidance on how to navigate life's rocky path.

Publisher's Summary
Four classic episodes from the original TV series: Arrival, Songs of Praise, Easter Special and The Christmas Lunch Incident. Welcome to Dibley, a perfect village full of some perfectly peculiar people - including Alice Tinker and her underactive brain, Owen Newitt and his overactive bowels, and Letitia Cropley and her orange cake with Branston pickle icing.
Council ruler David Horton has everything running exactly as he wishes - until 102-year-old Reverend Pottle dies. That's when the trouble begins, for the new vicar of Dibley is Geraldine, a babe with a bob and a magnificent bosom. In these instalments, the vicar increases the church-going public, finds something remarkably attractive about television, learns about suffering by giving up chocolate for Lent, and promises herself too many Christmas lunches with too many people.
Starring Dawn French, with Gary Waldhorn, James Fleet, Roger Lloyd Pack, Emma Chambers and Trevor Peacock.

Thank you Audible!!
What did you love best about Vicar of Dibley 1?
I loved the TV series and this is an audio only version of the show.
What other book might you compare Vicar of Dibley 1 to and why?
The Good Life and Fawlty Towers are two other BBC televion series transferred to audio exactly as aired with the exception of brief narration. The Good Life and Vicar of Dibley are both very warm and funny.
What about Dawn French’s performance did you like?
Dawn French is able to deliver barbs and sarcasm without a hint of malice, never losing that lovely feeling that she genuinely likes these kooky characters
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I had to ration it out slowly since there are (as of yet) no more in the series.
Any additional comments?
I hope audible will make all of these wonderful shows available soon!

Love Dawn French! But downloaded it by accident...
What made the experience of listening to Vicar of Dibley 1 the most enjoyable?
I love the Vicar of Dibley! I have all the seasons on DVD...
BUT... I was just cking out the Audible bk. pg. and wanted more info. on it , I accidently tapped the wrong spot and it immediately downloaded. It is the exact episode I already own on DVD, I haven't listened to it as I was hoping for a refund but wasn't sure I could get one (?). It still show's that 0% of it was listened to...
Be careful what you 'tap' on if you have a Kindle Fire, it cost me $14.99 and I won't even use it since I already own the DVD as mentioned above. Sorry.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Dawn French
Have you listened to any of Dawn French’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
She's wonderful in everything!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
no

Warm and Funny
A pretty much straight conversion from the TV series (as far as I can tell) this works surprisingly well on audio only, the warmth and humour come through and it has become one of my favourite repeat listens.
Dawn French is of course wonderful as the vicar but the supporting cast bring to life an array of characters that are both bizarre and endearing and work perfectly in combination with the lead.
My only criticism - I really wish more episodes were available on audible :)

Great for fans of the TV show
As someone who has watched every episode of Vicar of Dibley more times than I can count, and is able to visualise what is happening in every scene, this audio version of some episodes from Series 1 is quite nice to listen to. I’ve found it good for putting on in the background whilst cleaning, settling in for sleep, or various activities where I benefit from familiar background noise (without feeling I need to keep an eye on a TV screen).
I am not sure that people who are not so familiar with the show would really get as much from it, but maybe it would still be entertaining without the visuals (though some of the laughter may be confusing if you don’t know or recall what would be happening on screen).
I definitely enjoyed however, and was glad to be able to pick up at a discount. (Also, some scenes from the show have been cut or edited out of the audio, presumably because they’d be too confusing or unnecessary in audio.)

Although these audios are just abridged version of the original TV show and some of the visual gags are lost on the listener, the strength of these four episodes shines through.
