Publisher's Summary

If there is one truth that I hold to in my life, it is that when it rains, it pours.

Perhaps that is why I built myself not for the everyday storms most experience.
But for the hurricanes I have had to learn to withstand.

I know what it is like to feel your heart crack in half like a tree that snaps under too much pressure.

I know the bone-deep, all-consuming, numbness that sets in when the wind and the cold and the water become too much.

I know the desperation that claws under the surface as you try to wait through the night, and hope that come the dawn, the storm has passed.
But perhaps, most importantly, I know how to survive.
Or really, I am too spiteful to die.

Either way, my world is falling apart around me. Death and destruction are knocking on my door. And a storm is coming. One unlike anything we have ever encountered before.

This time it is not Anastasia I will face on the battlefield, but the one who calls to me. The one I cannot face.

This is one storm I don’t know if I will survive...or if the price of living is too high.

**This is the final book in Selena's journey. Daizlei Academy is a completed series intended for older teens and adults.**

Book 4 did not disappoint!!

So I hadn’t read this series beforehand and I am kinda glad I didnt because the audiobook was a pleasant surprise and I loved it and didnt want it to end. I wont give away too much since its the big climax of the story and no one likes having the story ruined with spoilers. I think my favorite was at the end when Selena got to meet some awesome characters that had been talked about but never seen/spoken to. I thought that was done so well, I would love to see more of them/more spinoffs from this series that has them as special cameos. I thought Lily was a fabulous baddie in this one, she exuded darkness after what she had to endure and had to adapt to keep from losing it completely. I was sad how things ended for her, but I understand what Kel was doing and I can see her popping up in future stories (maaaaybe Blair’s!?!). I wish Selena and Ash had more time alone together, if you know what I mean. I loved how the story was the #1 priority but I did miss some steam. I also have so many questions regarding Alexandria, Blair, Kara, etc. I hope Kel visits this world again. Now I am a huge RH but this M/F story was amazing and a good break from all the RH I have been reading/listening to haha. I want to see how Blair and Alec handle their new lives, what happens with Alexandria (does she get a signasti?) How does Kara handle her new powers and bring a teenager? Does Lucas fall for Lily or handle his new responsibility in life? So many things that can be for future stories, I would be up for any of them honestly!! Oooh and I loved the attitude with the council at the end and how Selena’s role changed (with the vessel role that was given to her).

One last thing to talk about this story. I loved seeing all the powers and supernatural aspect in book 4. We got to see more from some characters, see some being refined, some we didnt even know had some! I kinda wish the battles could have been a little longer, but when one character has an immense, deadly power, its hard to have that longer drawn out battle/war.

For the narration, I thought this was probably Stacey’s strongest performance. Some things sounded a little off for me (some accents were consistent between some of the side characters) but it wasnt enough for me to bring it down from a 5 to a 4 star rating. I felt all the emotions when it came to the sisters, to the outcome that had to happen, to Selena and a character that had to say goodbye. I thought the love between Ash and Selena was palpable, along with Selena’s love for her family and Ash’s family. I thought the scenes with the Alpha was done really well too and the deadly showdown with Lily with the group not there was gut wrenching and made me really believe the story/these characters came to life. Great job, will be checking out more by Kel and narrations of Stacey’s, that’s for sure ❤️

Another battle ending

Like so many of this genre, book 4 of the series ended in a series of battles. Lots of blood, death, torture, body parts amassed. Personalities of the characters are pretty much fixed and predictable by now, so this wasn’t the best of the series.

I can’t get enough of this series!

I loved that audiobook so much! I love these characters and this world! I never want the stories to end. They pull me in from the very first chapter and I can’t stop listening. Selena has so much to deal with and wow the way she handles it all. I loved Selena so much! I can’t believe this is the end to such a magnificent series I’m so sad to say goodbye but it was all so worth it! The narrator also did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life.

Hoping we visit this world again!

I wish we had more romance between Selena and Asher because I truly loved them together. It was a bit odd to see more slightly explicit scenes with Selena's sister and her signasti.

However, everything wrapped up nicely and would definitely love to visit this world again. There's absolutely more room to build on, so I'll be crossing my fingers hoping for that.

The epilogue was a bit shorter than I hoped, so maybe that'll be a sign that we'll see this world again. Like I've mentioned in previous reviews for this series, solid narrator choice!

Is it over already?

Can it really be over already? I'm not ready! I need more!

Overall the pace of this book was blindingly fast. I even extended my listening over several days so that I could prolong the goodness and I still felt like things were flying by. Because of the pacing, I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as the previous one even though I think the ending was nicely done and left me satisfied. I have just gotten so invested in the characters and the world that I want them to have more page-time. I think the story suffered a bit from having too many awesome characters introduced and not enough space to give them each full development and satisfying conclusions. What we don't get in side-character development and page-time, we get with lots of action and some really emotional moments. I was hooked to the very end.

While I was left wanting more, the book is still a must-read. If you've gotten this far you HAVE to find out what happens and how everything gets resolved. I'm already ready to go back to the beginning and read the series all over again.

I really hope there's a spin-off or even a few short stories so we get to spend more time with the characters. While the core issues were wrapped up, Kel left us with just enough loose threads that she could spin into a new adventure.

Soul achingly perfect

Ahhhhhh Lily!!! Poor Selena . The narration of this last book of Selena’s story was perfection. Stacey G did a marvelous job conveying the rawness of Selena’s feelings - grief, love, anger, hopelessness. I cried for everything she had to go through. This series is one of my favorites. It just hits me right in the soul. The narration will not disappoint and the story arch is phenomenal.

Great way to wrap up Selena’s story.

I don’t want to give any of the details away. This is the great climax to the story line. Stacey is a great narrator & delivers another fantastic performance. Can’t wait to read Blair’s story when that comes. Thanks for another awesome series Kel. ❤️🎧❤️

Vessel Of Destruction

This was well worth the wait. I would have loved more Selena/Ash time but story was epic . I am hoping for a sequel series for some of the other characters . The narrator sucked me into this world and the story refused to let me leave .

The end...or is it?

Excellent narraration. I truly enjoyed listening to the final book. I was pleased to see Selena's story has a clear ending. I truly hope the author expands this world at some point. It is clear that some of the secondary characters have stories yet to be told. Mainly Blair, Lily, and Lucas. Their stories are tide up in this book, but I feel a strong, too be continued hidden in there.

End of an amazing series

This story tugs at your heartstrings. The action, mystery and intrigue. The deep Love that Selena has in her heart and the curse she is attempting to break. Her relationship with Ash....sad to see the end, but so worth the read.

An ending that restored my faith in humanity

Ok I’ll start with the ending because it really soothed my heart and restored my faith!
This book was so action-packed it kept me on edge during most of my listening time! I feared up to the very end about what would happen so this ending was very welcome 🖤🖤 I really enjoyed listening to it even though it took me some time to understand what was happening in the beginning. I was so glad at how things turn out 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

A super ending to the series

I received a free copy of this audiobook in return for an honest review.

This book ended the series really well. Interesting, absorbing and fun, everything that had been woven through the previous 3 books was brought together perfectly I thought. As with the whole series, the narration was great.

Fantastic conclusion

Selena faces some hard decisions, and there are no outcomes from those decisions that don't result in death for those she loves. This is a fantastic conclusion to a brilliant series.
I look forward to the next story to come from Kel Carpenter.
