Publisher's summary

Resonance. It's a given on the ice planet, forced upon you by the parasitic symbiont called the "khui". With resonance, a guy and a girl are paired up because they'll make great babies. It's a survival mechanism necessary for this sparsely populated world we're stranded on...and romantic, in a weird, alien way.

Everyone expects resonance to happen when 20 newcomers are dropped onto the frosty world. I doubt anyone expects the gorgeous golden god named Ashtar to resonate to someone like me, though. He's fierce. Flirty. Powerful. Disgustingly handsome. I'm...not any of those things. I'm bland. Boring. Clumsy.

But resonance seems to think we'd be great together. And Ashtar does, too....

Contains mature themes.

Where’s that campy alien romance magic?

Offshoot Icehome series is a paler series than it’s parent Series: Ice Planet Barbarians. This is Veronica and Ashtar’s story. I’m not sure if it’s the different narrators or the writing, but I have found both books 1 & 2 to be slower and duller.

When you’re talking about alien human romance novels, you’re not looking for Great Expectations. One of the things I loved about the IPB series was the lively speed at which chemistry exploded and nooky happened. Here, the nooky takes forever to get going. What a let down for a book 2 promising a gold, god of an alpha male gladiator dragon. (I see there is a whole other series based on these dragon aliens, but based on this book, I’m going to have to pass on that series).

Ashtar is arrogant and supposedly a lifelong gladiator slave whose never really associated with females, but his character seemed awfully compassionate and solicitous... but that is the author’s trademark male character. Veronica has no self confidence and her constant inner monologue about how plain and ordinary she is gets tiresome. The female narrator’s nasal females and raspy males turned me off. As much as I like dual narration, I think I’d prefer just the male narrator ( even though his version of Sakui voices is painfully measured and tone less) ... or bring back the male/female narrator from the original series.

The rest of this new series can’t be borrowed in the Audible Escapes package. If they are offered at the occasional 50% sale, I may get them. Otherwise, I’ll spend my credit on meatier, 20+ hour books.

I love this series!

loved the story, just wish leading lady didn't sound like a valley girl. This is my only issue with this book. Once I got past the girl's voice it was great!

Veronica & Ashtar.

I have read most the books from this series and I think this one might be my favorite of them all. Ashtar is too funny, I loved how he was strutting around like a peacock and showing off for Veronica and embarrassing her the first night. I love the fact that the males think the woman will just fall on them and accidently have sex with them. Narrators are good, different from the original series, but I still like them.

Meh-It’s Ok

This is the 4th book in the series I read-I actually read the third book before this one “Willa’s Beast” (and found the story with Willa and Grin much more lovable and believable). Honestly if you like this series it is a good few hours. Veronica has a lovely character arc of growing to love herself! Ash is...more fun in the other books from the outside looking in. Even Grin-the beast who wanted to kill everyone-wasn’t as rude and anti-social as Ash. Of course Ash gets better by the end of the novel through the lovely power of character development.

In short-like this series? Give this book a shot!
Going in blind? Read Willa’s Beast first.
That way you can at least be intrigued by the parallel scenes the characters share in both books when you finally read this one ;)

Not my favorite Ruby story

I eat up every story ruby puts out with our Ice Barbarians- this one however was so hard to get through. Okay I get it Ashtar has his hang ups very understandable but at some point it was getting incredibly annoying how he was making all the decisions and not giving veronica choices at all- it began to become way to repetitive and then veronica doesn't even really do much to stand up for herself if you mad or annoyed stay mad don;t just get swayed bc you wanna jump his bones lol. Yea not a fan of this one sorry ruby :(

Veronicas stupid. weak. and boring

I can't stand a weak h who doesn't stand up for herself. He takes her away from the camp. She wants to go back. She asks once, stomps her foot, and then protest over. Doesn't point out how shitty he is for taking her choice. Doesn't even get mad at him for refusing to listen when she tells him to take her back.

B***ch literally stomps her foot and then is just over it cause "she can't stay mad at him".

On top of being weak, she was beyond boring.

I enjoyed the book

I enjoyed the book. It was truly funny at parts. I wouldn't say that it was very sexy but it did have me blushing. I don't regret listening. its a good way to pass a car ride to and from work.
