Honestly.. as someone in avation this was a disappointment. More of a disappointment than I actually expected (and let me tell you my bar was already in hell).

The detail just isn't there. What branch are they even in? Air Force or Navy? Not that it even matters. All these facts are so wrong it can't be either one. Chief is an enlisted rank, they don't fly jets in either branch (yet hes some how an old crysty pilot). This book also stated that the his dad (suppost to have been retired nearly before the male character was born) was testing F-35s in the 90s. The F-35 wasn't even in the testing phase until 2006. The first prototype wasn't even Air worthy until late 2000.

On top of that, why are they doing training exercises in the middle east? This kind of stuff is done in the states, in controlled areas not war zones. Any kind of testing, any kind of funding approval tests for a specific jet would not ever be done in that kind of area.

I don't even want to talk about how the flashbacks are giving me whiplash.. not to mention the timeline is so jacked up its not even funny.

And you don't want me to talk about the BS romance of a 6 year old.. and how shes loved no one since. (pardon me?..) And then the writer still doubted down on some super weird reactions/thougths for the woman.. women do not think like this or act like this. And this extremely competent woman "feels safer" around him after making out with him? Yeah, because that makes complete sense. I don't even want to talk about this grown man thinking that a woman brings and wears lace bras on a deployment?!?! LMAO. (This is the definition of a woman written by a man)
And this story keeps telling us that this guy is 36 and hes retiring... does this writer even know that you need 20 years minimum to retire, unless you're seperationg or medically discharged? What did this character do?.. join at 16? I think not.

To finish it off.. what is this AI voice? As if this story wasn't agonizing enough.

Did the writer even try?
