About the Author: I am Michael L. Madigan, a master instructor with the Department of Homeland Defense Civil Support Office at the U.S. Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear School in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. I train Department of Defense personnel in hazardous materials handling, WMD response operations, installation emergency management and Chemical Response Enterprise threat assessments. After retiring as a senior chemical operations specialist following 45 years of service—including assignments in Iraq and Afghanistan under MNFI—I’ve influenced Army and DoD CBRNE policies as the WMD/Terrorism/CBRNE Team Chief and Survey Team Chief for a Civil Support Team.

I hold a BA in Criminal Justice (University of Massachusetts), an MS in Security Management (American Military University), a Doctorate in Emergency Management (Capella University) and a Security Management certificate (UMass). I’m also an adjunct professor at Central Texas College, a FEMA ICS/NIMS instructor and a Level II fire instructor. Married to an amazing lady, my wife Michelle, together we have seven children and fifteen grandchildren, and I enjoy traveling and family time.
