Publisher's summary

Transforming a monumental era in Japanese history into fantasy fiction, Uprising tells the story of a common girl's encounter with samurai clans. Being taught to fear the samurai, Osei wonders what excitement awaits her. Perhaps her eyes will be opened to something beyond human understanding.

Confusing story and bad performance

The story is confusing. The author writes about a subject and a culture that he clearly does not understand. The point of view of the story changes frequently, making it confusing which character is speaking and why he/she is behaving the way they are. Maybe if the performance was better (i.e. different pitches and accents), this might help with perspective. The plot is disjointed. I have no idea how we went from a disobedient army of samurais deserting their Lord to a village girl and a lone samurai (who uses a spear and throws knives????) The author also has poor choices of adjectives in inappropriate situations. The performance detracts from the story. It has lots of repeats of passages, lengthy pauses, trembly voice. The performance clearly needs to be edited. Also, she uses a celtic qccent at times, which is completely at odds with a Japanese-centric story.
