Publisher's summary

Kevin was a young man enjoying his college life when a car jumped the curb and crippled his body. Unable to support himself and dependent on others to meet his needs, Kevin was slipping into depression when his best friend convinced him to play a new game called Genesis Online. The concept was simple: a revolutionary artificial intelligence controlled the game world and adapted it to the actions of the players. Even the developers didn't know what course the game could take as it evolved.

Lured into the game by the prospect of earning real money, Kevin soon runs afoul of a man determined to control as much of Genesis as possible. He recruits other disenfranchised players to his side in his quest to find a way to prosper in the game. Can they stop the man who calls himself the king of Genesis from taking over everything?

Good idea just some plot holes

Good premise little limited in terms of world growth. Lot of potential.

However their are some big plot holes like money. In game things are actually pretty cheap. I’ve seen people put 50$ easy in to free games and in this world that would take them really far. It just seems like oh most people don’t realize hey 5$ is enough to get my character taught all the skills in my class.

when someone's just unrealistically nice

The m.c. here is pretty naive, and has a weird hatred of charity for a guy who literally can't do much of anything.

He also gets surprised every time he gets attacked by the same guild, and is shocked that people on the internet are rude. I think this kind of naive character is just a cheap way to show character development.

this is an amazing borderline RPG

well this is not strictly RPG it is an amazing start to a serious that has potential not only in its fights but as a potential to begin a new series of World building hopefully he can build on this also well this book dust touch on real world potential for helping people with mobility issues hopefully in the next books he can truly start to include this with a stronger secondary theme

Fixed the ending

So glad the author fixed the ending. Originally he tossed off the idea of building a town when we all know that it was going to happen because that is where the money is at.

For younger audiences

This book is really meant for adolescents or younger kids. The performance is good just not very mature

Absolutely a great book.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Up until now, Alterworld, Live to play was the best RPG type book I have listened to. This book ranks very close to Alterworld, if not the same ranking. It has a lot of potential. With the Live to Play series, the first 3 were great, 4 was shaky and the 5-7 were terrible. We will have to see where this series goes. But I was 2 hours in and already checking to see if there were any other books out. I cannot wait until book 2 arrives. I didn't realize that Michael Goldstrom was also the one that did Alterworld as I didn't recognize the name. But he has a style and voice that just fits perfect for this genre.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I burned through this book in 2 days. I was tempted to listen to it all in one day. Had I not got such a late day start, I probably would have.

Something a little different.

I’ve listened to a lot of LitRPGs in the past couple years. I really enjoy the characters inside the game and in RL. Unwritten Rules is definitely in my top 10. Adam Horne doesn’t try to through to many characters at you for to try and remember who’s who. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series.

Enjoyable

The listening audience will appreciate the writer’s effort in this book. It has a sincerity that the listener will enjoy. Also, it is reminiscent of a book called Re-Roll by Robyn Wideman. If the listener enjoyed that series, they would also appreciate this book. As a side note, I enjoy it when a writer comes up with unique names to fit the genre they are writing. Lastly, this book is worth the credit.
