Now a completed series!

An outbreak of "The Fever" has taken hold of Portland, Oregon, bringing the population to its knees. "The Fever" spreads and kills quickly, but the dead aren't staying dead.

When her neighbor, Jordan, saves her from an infected, Alissa joins him in his plan to escape the city, the zombies and the threat of a quarantine that will lock the living in with the undead.

What she doesn't tell him is that she has an illness of her own, one that plays tricks with her mind and makes her a dangerous companion. But Jordan has a secret as well, one that compels him to keep Alissa, a veritable stranger, safe at all costs.

As they fight for their lives and race for their freedom, they'll discover that what they truly need in order to survive is to stay together until the end.

Good story, terrible narration

I honestly could not finish this audible. I tried to get through the narration, but I couldn't do it. The story is promising, so I'll get the book and read it. The narration is bland and monotone. No differences in character voices and no emphasis on areas that are intense.

Narrator Sucks

The story does have potential, but the narration wasn't great. there was not enough change of voice between the characters which gets confusing. I gave up after chapter 5.

Awesome zombie apocalypse story!

I’m a big fan of Trace Ward and so excited about finding her on Audible. Zombie apocalypse with romance thrown in. Great narration. My all day drive was made bearable. Thanks.

Excellent story, but loses points on narration

I would have given it a 3.5 maybe, because the narration did grate on my nerves too: most of the time it was monotonous and lacked emotion and the pacing is off. HOWEVER, you can still enjoy the book, just pretend it is your sister reading to you haha.

I read this book first before listening to the audible version and really loved it! At first I almost felt like the narration matched the bleak and complicated outlook of the main character. What a horrific predicament that she finds herself in at the end of the world. You struggle alongside Ali, trying to understand who to trust and how to trust her own instincts. The characters' fight for survival is palpable and the way they grow together, how they face their own horrors- together, shows that even at the end of the world there is still beauty to behold!

Same zombie apocalypse story bit well read

If you like zombie apocalypse you’ll get the same out of this one as all others, well read and realistic...for the most part. Nothing too ridiculous and very down to earth as far as available resources. Recommended

Great addition to this Genre

I like this genre and this story caught my interest right away and I found it interesting and will follow up with the rest of the series.

I read a negative review of the narrator, but personally I really liked her clear cadence because I felt as if she were simply reading the story to me in an easy to follow manner so I was able to imagine the characters myself.

Start pronouncing PNW names of places correctly

Why can't narrators pronounce the names of PNW places correctly; also, why aren't narrators told how to pronounce PNW places... please do your homework.

Worth a Listen

Glad I ignored the reviews about the narration. The narrator isn’t the best I’ve heard but wasn’t nearly as bad as reviews made her sound. There are some odd pauses and her tone sounds a bit sad/monotone but it fits with someone who is facing the mental health issues this character is.

Overall I thought the story was good. The characters and story were interesting. There is danger and challenges but not so much that it seems unreasonable. There are no rape scenes or excessive human on human violence. The only thing I didn’t love were the weird jokes about racism that seemed out of place. I don’t think the author is racist but the placement of the jokes just didn’t seem to go with the rest of the story. Just sort of awkward jokes that could have been left out.

If you’re looking for an apocalypse book that is realistic but not traumatic or overdone this is a good one.

Excellent Zombie apocalypse story

I loved the story's characters, Alyssa and Jordan, and the dynamic they had throughout the story. I started listening during my daily work commute, but then found myself sneaking in chapters whenever I could during the day. The narrator was engaging and kept me hooked into the story. The way she described some of the scenes and the close calls with the zombies was vivid. I could feel the danger the characters were in.
If you love zombie apocalypse stories you'll love this book. The relationship that evolves between Alyssa and Jordan add to the story and make it more than just an apocalypse book.

Good story. dry, awful narration.

There were a few plot holes, and a few times the author changed character behavior to suit her purpose. Other than that the story was entertaining, but it needs a diferent narrator. This narrator is so dry I needed a drink of water to finish listening. Just awful.
