Publisher's summary

He was my best friend, my best not-really-big-brother and my best protector. He was my best everything. He was mine.

Coming home is hard for Lane. Hard because Harry, her beloved uncle, has died suddenly, but also because of him. Kale.

Kale Hunt has been her best friend since childhood. But it was never that simple. He was Lane's reason for leaving home and moving to New York. Seeing him with someone else, in love with someone else, shouldn't have hurt. But it did. It really, really did. So she upped sticks and left, started a new life and cut herself off from her past.

But now she's back and all the feelings are right there. As if she had never left.

Emotions are running high for everyone, and tragedy has a funny way of bringing people together. But is Lane reading the signs right? Are they still just friends, or is there something more?

Very emotional but beautiful story!

Narration was wonderful in the English accent. Kale & Laney's tale is a heartbreaking journey but it is definitely worth a credit!!!

A New to Me Author

This is the first work I've read by this author and while I sometimes found the timeline hopping a bit distracting, the overall story is well written and the characters endearing. Poor Lane-Kale has been everything to her all of her life but not the most important thing she wants. Loss and hurt sent to away from her family six years ago and the pain of losing her beloved uncle, Harry, brings her home to face her past. It's time for Lane to face her family and the losses from her past so there is a future for her, hopefully a bright one. I would definitely read another story by this author.
It took me about ten minutes to acclimate to the heavily British narration but once I did I enjoy Heather Wild bringing the characters to life. The range of emotion in this book is large and she hit each of them head-on.

Love that finally makes its way

The narrator did a phenomenal job! The emotion portrayed and the accents were great.

I have to say I was dreading that this novel would be slow, and slightly typical with the love happens twice, friends to love, kind of relationship. The author did not disappoint. There wasn’t a slow part, there was current state, flash back, and repeat. I wanted to scream at the characters for being human and making the mistakes they made and the external forces they allowed to control them, but all in all a very pleasant book. I do wish that we could have heard more at the ending for these two Lane and Kale, but thankfully all the hardships are explained at the end.

********There is some sexual scenes, and a potential trigger chapter with potential rape and physical abuse**********

So touching and full of love

Amazing story. You feel for all of them. Once you make it through the tears, there is a happily ever after. This would make a great chick flic.

{Kale & Lane}: TRIGGERS: grief & bullying. This book will have you on the brink of tears with just about every chapter. Lane gets a call from London. "It's time to come home…", her uncle has passed. As he's the only member of her family she's spoken to in years, she makes the trip and then the book becomes about making amends, saying goodbye and flashbacks. Lane has two older twin brothers and they have a best friend, Kale. They all grew up together. Lane has been in love with Kale almost all her life but he's never seen her that way. Until she starts to grow up. But he's always had a girlfriend. When one of the most horrible things happens to her in college, she finally admits her feelings for Kale but he's got even more devastating news. His news not only tears up their friendship but causes a rift with her and her entire family. I loved the story but it is a really slow burn and tends to drag a little. What I loved most were the memories the author flashes back to with Lane and her uncle. It gives you a stronger connection to them and makes you feel more for the story and the characters.

LOVED this book

Such a well written book with a great, rich story line that flows so well. I loved Kale's nickname for Lane more and more as the story went on, and the rest of the emotions that the book evoked.

Great book, bad narration!

This book had me laughing, crying, and experiencing every emotion in between. Lanes relationships with her entire family keeps you loving their live for each other, and the relationship she has with Kale would make anyone envious.

I wish I had read this book rather than listen, as the narration was awful. I almost didn’t get past the first chapter due to the poor reading of Heather Wilds. She did get better toward the middle of the book.
