Publisher's summary

Finally, a housekeeping and organizational system developed for those of us who'd describe our current living situation as a "f--king mess" that we "really need to get around to fixing one day". Unf--k Your Habitat is for anyone who has been left behind by traditional aspirational systems - the ones that ignore single people with full-time jobs, people without kids but living with roommates, and people with mental illnesses or physical limitations. Most organizational books are aimed at stay-at-home moms and people who seem to have unimaginable amounts of free time. They assume we all iron our sheets, have linen napkins to match our table runners, and can keep plants alive for longer than a week. Basically, they ignore most of us living here in the real world.

Interspersed with lists and challenges, this practical, no-nonsense guide helps you develop lifelong habits. It motivates you to embrace a new lifestyle in manageable sections so you can start applying the tactics as you progress. This philosophy is more realistic than aspirational, but the goal is the same: not everyone will have a showcase of a home, but whatever your habitat, you deserve for it to bring you happiness, not stress.

No more marathoning

I receive so many compliments on my home's cleaniless now. I am a recovering marathon cleaner. I enjoy the mini-challenges and grateful that I get to come home to a clean space daily.

Continuous swearing

Should have known better from the title. It detracts from the authors intelligence. I wont finish it because of that.

Blunt but fun

The author wrote it with very easy flow for communication and getting the point across. Some ideas were good but the book isn’t just for those that find themselves in a loop but for those that are totally clueless they even are in a loop. Though, I wish I’d borrowed this from a library, rather than fully purchase it.

Awesome life changing and doable!

If I could give this book 10 stars I would. It is a great book for the rest of us. Or for the marathon cleaners and declutterers who freak out once a year or otherwise just give up. Love love love the book!

Helpful

As a working wife and mother, this book put things in perspective. I feel a lot less overwhelmed using the approach outlined in the book. Great narration.

The narrator wasn’t right for the material

The content of the book is excellent, but the narrator was distracting. She has a chirpy, sunny voice that does match the witty and irreverent words. It is like a tween thinking she’s cool for using naughty words. But again, the advice is great and well organized.

meh...

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I wish I would have listened to some of the other reviews. Repetitive and a bit boring. I'll save you the trouble: spend a few minutes everyday cleaning your house. Boom.
Not bad advice, and I'm going to try and incorporate it into my cleaning routine. But I just don't think she needed to write an entire book about it. A blog post would have sufficed.

Funny and motivating

I listened to it while using the 20/10 method. I am sure I will revisit this one from time to time when I start slacking.

Good Book

It's real life practical advice for people that have lives and/or are broke. Most books except you to invest loads of money or spend all your time cleaning.

good tips and funny

so I accidentally bought this book. I thought it was a different one by the same author.

I'm already a pretty tidy person but this gave me some tips to better that. I really like the 20 minute suggestion. well all the time suggestions. my husband is a very hard person to get motivated to organize. I told him about the 20 minute organizing/cleaning idea and he actually worked on cleaning up our very unorganized garage. he stopped at 20 minutes and like its said in the book even working on a mess for 5 minutes makes the mess less than it was. I took a before picture for him and he was really happy with what 20 minutes had accomplished. he worked on it more the day after as well on his own. this book is worth reading or listening to on audible. I listened to it while I was doing my daily cleaning. I have so much more I can write about this book but you should read it for yourself. remember there is stuff in the book you may already know but I promise you will get at least a tip or two.
