Publisher's Summary

Editor's Choice in The Bookseller.

Based on the 'world's spookiest podcast' of the same name comes Unexplained: a book of 10 real-life mysteries which might be best left unexplained....

Demonic possession in 1970s Germany.

UFOs in Rendlesham forest.

Reincarnation in Middlesbrough.

Richard Maclean Smith delves into these mysteries and many more, with a supporting cast bringing to life the unexplained occurrences in this special immersive audio edition.

Based on one of the most successful paranormal podcasts ever, with over 10 million streams and downloads to date, Unexplained consists of 10 chapters focusing on a different paranormal event, from Australia to Germany, the UK to Zimbabwe, using the stories as gateways to a journey beyond the veil of the uncanny, exploring what they reveal of the human experience.

This special immersive audio edition is narrated by Richard MacLean Smith and features full cast re-creations of the unexplained events.

Taking ideas once thought of as supernatural or paranormal and questioning whether radical ideas in science might provide a new but equally extraordinary explanation, Unexplained is The Examined Life meets The X-Files

Just as excellent as the podcast.

Very different from the rest of it's genre. Unexplained is thoughtful, well-researched and resists the urge to dumb down like so many other titles before it.

Enjoyable but disconnected

The book is very close to a podcast format with several shorter stories plus some admittedly interesting scientific phenomena and real-world context to them, but it could have been an opportunity to do a deeper, more connected exploration of some aspect of the supernatural/unknown.

In addition, the stories are nothing new; They are some of the most regularly featured stories in similar podcasts and youtube-videos.

Nevertheless it was easy, enjoyable listening with thorough research and good narration.

Embarrassingly Tragic Narration!

Good story but the hilariously stupid sound effects that accompany the narration ruin it. Shame.

Not as good as the podcast

The podcast is a good deal better; there is less time to waffle in the shorter format.

Not sure what I was expecting

I was not sure about this, but I had a credit, audible suggested it so I thought I'd give it a chance, worst case scenario i could return it.
But after the second chapter i was really enjoying it, it's well written and investigated, the narrator is excellent and I will be looking for other things he's narrated.
It's not a book all about little green men and the end of the world, it looks into very varied items and sets out what is known without forcing you to believe!
I really enjoyed it, and would recommend giving it a go if you aren't sure.

Thought provoking

Intelligent thought provoking content, well researched. Unhesitatingly recommended, a book which holds the attention all through.

Prefer the podcast

This was a bit long winded. I prefer his podcast as it is more concise.

Some good stories

Some good stories but a but boring in places. Some of chapters drag on. Also the voices of the characters are cheesy.
