Publisher's summary

Evan, Tessa, Linnet, and India: four remarkable women. Three generations of Hartes. One indomitable family whose loyalty binds them together and whose enemies want to tear them apart.

India Standish, the traditionalist in the family, falls for a famous British artist from a working-class background. Evan Hughes, Emma's American great-granddaughter, is trying to integrate into the Harte family. She is caught between her estranged parents, her new family, and a new love. Tessa Longden, Evan's cousin, is battling for custody of her daughter, Adele. When Adele suddenly goes missing, Tessa is forced to seek help from her half-sister, Linnet, a woman who has been her rival all their lives. Linnet is the most brilliant businesswoman of the four great-granddaughters, her glittering future at the helm of the vast Harte empire means many sacrifices, perhaps even the loss of her sister's fragile trust.

As conflict and danger swirl around the Harte women, someone is pulling the strings to make sure none of them find happiness. Who among them will rise to the challenges as only a true Harte can do?

Interesting but too much detail

First let me say that the story kept my attention and the narration was very good. I enjoyed learning about the rest of the Emma Harte saga. At times it went into too much detail about every dress that every person was wearing at an event, etc. but I would still recommend it to anyone who has read the other Barbara Taylor Bradford books. It was at it's best during the suspenseful moments.

I Remember...

It has been ages since I had read about the Harte family from Elizabeth Taylor Bradford. So I decided to try this one out ...and then I remembered why I stopped reading her books. The names change, but nothing else. The family is so committed to what Emma started, the homes and offices are all decorated elegantly but not overdone. The women may not be beautiful, but all have a unique attractive quality all their own ...blah, blah, blah!! How sappy can one get! And this has gone on for generations now.

If you have never read a book by Elizabeth Taylor Bradford, this is as good as any. But don't go for the second one.

Grating, horrible narration

Story was cute, but the narration was grating. Tough to listen to. Especially the Evan characters voice!
