Publisher's summary

Matthew Walsh doesn't have feelings, and he likes it that way. Between breathing life into his family's third generation Boston architecture shop, keeping the peace with his five siblings, and competing in triathlons, he doesn't have much time for feelings. At least that's the case until Lauren Halsted tumbles into his life.

The feisty, beautiful blonde isn't what he wants and definitely not what he expects. She's so much more. Lauren Halsted doesn't have time and that's turning into a real problem for her. Losing focus isn't something Lauren does with any regularity. She has checklists and to-do lists and action plans a mile long. She doesn't have distractions and she doesn't let anyone tell her what to do.

When she trips down a flight of stairs and into her architect's arms, she gives into distraction for one night. They weren't looking but they found each other anyway.

SORRY.... BUT I HAVE TO TELL IT LIKE I FELT IT

There are some books where you just can't connect with one or both of the main characters..... and this listen, unfortunately, was one of them and the fault lies between Lauren and me. Lauren was driven to open up her own School and needed the help of an Architect..... in walks the gorgeous Matthew and the sparks (and clothes) flew right from the start along with their undeniable chemistry and lust. But there were problems because Matthew was 100% committed to their relationship but Lauren kept denying it by being aloof, non-committed, distant and blew hot and cold ALL the time..... and I think that's where our problems hung.

Matthew knew what he wanted and that was Lauren so he poured everything he could into their very sexual relationship but his repeated phone calls would go unanswered, his many caring text messages wouldn't get a reply and his concerned emails would be left unopened. Which distracted, confused and frustrated the shit out of him (and me) as he tried to function at his job. But it left me really pissed off with Lauren's continued hot and cold attitude towards his feelings because it was all centred around her School, her career and her wants.... which was to be his sexual toy and nothing more and she completely failed to ever think about Matthew's wants and feelings at all. So, by the end, when Lauren finally saw sense about the wonderful man she had coldly tossed away, it was too little too late for me to salvage any warm and fuzzy feelings for her.

Matthew was a very loving and thoughtful Hero and deserved a far better Heroine than Lauren, Lauren was (for the most part) a misguided, confused, ruthless and heartless Heroine, their romance started with lots of hot sweaty sex and was prefixed, accompanied of followed with lots of dirty talk too. Which was then followed by confusion, heartache, more hot and sweaty sex, unrequited love, rejection, realization and finally a HEA. There was lots of interesting secondary characters including Matthew's large variety of siblings whose bickerings and banter brought light and humor along with them. Drama came in the form of a drunken, abusive and hate-filled Father whose verbal insults were barbed with razors. Dual POV's and good narration.

Worth a credit? Who knows why some listeners will like this one sided love story while I, like Lauren, couldn't fully commit. It could develop into a really good series about the Walsh siblings and so I might give another book a try. But, hand on heart, when I compare this contemporary listen to so many worthy 5 star listens out there, I have to say that, for me, this was more of a $4.95 sale purchase than a creditworthy one.

Read it, don’t listen.

I’ve read this book (and series) multiple times and thought I’d give the audio version a try. I wish I hadn’t. The female narrator uses a tone/voice that ruins my version/vision of Lauren, and gives me a terrible image. By mid-book, I wanted to skip all her parts. I won’t listen to another book she narrates. And the male narrator ruins every female voice he speaks.
Great story! I’m glad I read it first... if I listened first, I’d never have made it to book 2.

Really good listening book . Finally a good love story. It’s about time the guy had to wait on the girl instead of the guy always running. Thanks KC

Christian Fox is alpha perfection

I've listened to nearly everything Christian Fox has performed but I had put off this series because the cover really threw me off and I thought it would be too sweet for my taste. What can I say? I like my men dirty talking, possessive, and rough. ;) Boy, was I missing out. I hadn't realized how deliciously dirty talking and alpha with a cinnamon roll center his character Matthew Walsh would be in this. I'd have liked the characters to explore a bit more in the bedroom and I was a little annoyed with some of the MFC's actions throughout the book, but overall I enjoyed this story much more than I had anticipated.

Everything

The narration was awesome the good not great but good but I think the last chapter was a bit rushed and I guess “spoiler “ Angus death I wished that there was a better resolution between the kids and him.

Matthew and Lauren

Honestly, I have never been more annoyed with a main character than I was with Lauren. She spent 90% of the book pushing Matthew away and making him feel bad. For the first time in a long time, I kind of wished that they didn't end up together. He deserved someone that wouldn't run away every time things got a little difficult. However, I did enjoy the complicated family dynamic.

Christian Fox is one of my favorite narrators and Lucy Rivers did a wonderful job as well

A good listen, but be prepared to be frustrated.

Unexpected!

I loved this book. I think the story was nice and easy and funny and sexy. It was a good break from the angsty books I usually pick, I feel emotionally charged and full of feel goods.

The narrators, especially Christian Fox, really made this book come to life. Thoroughly impressed all around.

Great series

Lauren and Matt have a beautiful relationship. Sweet and very HOT. I read this series out of order until I realized it then started over. Each book is amazing. It doesn't ruin the story of listened to out of order either. Great family series
