Intimate perspective

This intimate perspective has greatly influenced my biblical understanding. Francine Rivers has done it again - once you start the story, you won't want to stop. Honestly, it never occurred to me that Mary and Joseph may have been taunted by the devil in his effort to destroy God's plan - wow. Love this story and really appreciate the talented narrator who was able to bring such emotion and realism.

very well written! highly recommend

I and going to download more books by this author. I'm very impressed. really enjoyed how this book was written! The plethora of details gave vivid pictures of the characters in the story. The added details did not seem to take away from what is presented in the Bible and seemed very well placed in the book. if I had to give a negative point it would be that it seemed as though Mary cried a lot.... but given the storyline it was appropriate I just tired of hearing the whine of the narrator.. lol. but that is not to take away from the book it was an excellent story I highly recommend it

Captivating

It was truly captivating. Mary's motherly humanity rang true to what all mothers probably would have felt and done. I love the ending when she sees her son again after the resurrection. I feel like the author handled that portion so well. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Brought Mary to life

I really enjoy Francine Rivers books and this was no exception but the narrator made it difficult to listen after a point. While Mary’s life was more difficult than I can possibly imagine, the narrator made her sound like she was always crying or worse, whining. After a while, I lost connection with Mary and just became frustrated. At the same time, I couldn’t create different voices for all of the characters and appreciate what the narrator was working to accomplish. This one just fell flat for me.

Some good some not

I disliked the differences between this and the Bible. Jesus is attributed as having performed miracles as a child being the most glaring. The Bible states that turning water into wine (as an adult) was his first miracle. Other parts, especially toward the end were very good and gave me new insights into the Biblical narrative.

Excellent!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book brings to life an aspect of the birth of Christ that isn't discussed much - what Mary went through in a personal sense, her perspective.

What other book might you compare Unafraid: Mary to and why?

The others by Francine Rivers on Rahab, Ruth, etc. Same great quality.

What does Barbara Rosenblat bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her tone of voice and inflection brings energy and life to the story. Turns a biography into a much more real-life feel.
