Publisher's summary

After years of struggle and sacrifice, Falcio val Mond, First Cantor of the Greatcoats, is on the brink of fulfilling his dead king's dream: Aline, the king's daughter, is about to take the throne and restore the rule of law once and for all.

But for the Greatcoats, nothing is ever that simple. In the neighboring country of Avares, an enigmatic new warlord is uniting the barbarian armies that have long plagued Tristia's borders - and even worse, he is rumored to have a new ally: Trin, who's twice tried to kill Aline to claim the throne of Tristia for herself. With the armies of Avares at her back, led by a bloodthirsty warrior, she'll be unstoppable.

Falcio, Kest, and Brasti race north to stop her, but in those cold and treacherous climes, they discover something altogether different, and far more dangerous: A new player is planning to take the throne of Tristia, and with a sense of dread the three friends realize that the Greatcoats, for all their skill, may not be able to stop him.

This series was a great find in my eyes. I would lay awake at night listening to it just to hear what happened next. I would have to force myself to stop. it was a fantastic story. the narration was excellent and it kept my attention. Can I go back in time?

If I could go back into time to listen to this for the first time again, I would. I loved this series.

A beautiful conclusion to the story

I really enjoyed the entire series. The characters were fantastic. Even the "bad" ones were typically bad from a point of view and often lead to some confliction. I highly recommend this series.

This series.. amazed me.

A series that went from hating to loving from one chapter to the next. I was skeptical from the start.

I wept and then chuckled.. and soon after could’ve thrown my headphones (which was weird, this was the first “new to me” series I’ve listened to on audible). I loved it and Joe Jameson in my mind was amazing at narrating Castell’s work so much so that I’ll probably seek out more of his narrated work.

I’ll also likely listen to anything about this world Castell has created. I’ve read on and off for years, usually sci-fi, and I picked up audible on a whim.. and immediately dove into books I’d likely never buy a copy of only to be ashamed that I’d ignored a genre of fantasy for so long.

It was a Journey that I’ll never forget and will likely have to listen to again.

The end I wanted

I listen to many books in this genre and I must admit I really loved this one for the unique aspects of it. Without going into much spoiler detail the aspect of learning things via song really stood out to me as something I never really think about in my every day but tend to use. The characters are likable and some big emotions between them. I recommend this as well as the rest of the story as this review is for the over all series not just this book.

Great story from start to end

Usually by book 4, a series gets repetitive and boring. This book did a good job of wrapping up all the loose ends quickly and neatly.

Good Ending To This Fun Series

Tyrant's Throne is the last book in the Greatcoat series, and I have to say I'm sorry to have it end. This book, like the others, continues adventure and humor that makes this series such fun. In the end, not all of their goals are accomplished, but the ending is satisfying.

Overall, I really enjoyed this series. Joe Jameson really is the perfect narrator for these characters, and with most of the main ones surviving until the end, I hope that Sebastien de Castell will some day revisit this world.
