Publisher's summary

Type 2 Diabetes The Owner's Manual can be your step-by-step guide on how to control your disease. Let this book help you manage type 2 diabetes rather than letting the disease manage you.

Daryl Wein discovered he was among the millions of patients with type 2 diabetes while studying to become a physician's assistant. That's when he found out that, despite type 2 diabetes making up the vast majority of cases, most of the reading material he could find was most appropriate for patients with type 1 diabetes. Type 2 Diabetes The Owner's Manual is his way of fixing that.

This handbook is an easy-to-hear guide on how to manage your blood sugar primarily through diet. It is written clearly and concisely, explaining the difference between the two diseases in a way that is easy to grasp. Wein includes concrete examples of what to eat and what to avoid. He talks about the importance of exercise and provides information about medicines in a way that the layman can comprehend without needing to know medical terminology.

The book also includes a very useful question-and-answer section that covers a variety of specifics about type 2 diabetes to help you make sense of it all.

Wein knows about the frustration and fear diabetics feel, because he's been there. As he explains in the book, when he experienced blurred vision and other health problems while studying to become a physician's assistant, he discovered that he was among the millions diagnosed each year with type 2 diabetes. "There was no mistake: I was now a diabetic!" he writes. "I sat down and started crying, not something I would ordinarily allow myself to do." He goes on to describe how a mentor told him that diabetes can usually be managed easily. He made sure to explain that failing to control it can lead to serious health problems including blindness, kidney failure, and limb amputations. He offered hope. Wein's book offers the same message of hope, along with a somber reminder that failing to control diabetes can lead to premature death. He provides listeners with the right information to help make sure they understand that this doesn't have to happen to them.

"My intent in writing this book is to finally provide a source of information geared specifically for you and me, along with the millions of others with this disease and the many millions who have it but don't yet know it," he writes. "This book is designed primarily to provide clear guidance for patients." You don't have to be a health expert to manage the disease.

Great Resource

I received a free audio version of this book for an honest review.

Type 2 Diabetes: The Owner’s Manual is a great resource for anyone who has Type 2 Diabetes or is at risk for getting it.

The first thing Daryl Wein does is explain why Type 2 Diabetes is not the right name for this disease and that it should be called Carbosis. This is because carbs are no longer processed by the body correctly and are the cause of insulin and blood sugar problems. His explanation makes a lot of sense and I wish more doctors taught their patients to not only limit sugar intake, but to eliminate or decrease carbohydrates.

Food lists are included in the book, such as a list of foods that don’t have carbs or have low carbs and foods that are a definite no-no. If I were going to use this book as a resource, I would get a copy other than the audio version of the book so it would be easy to go back to it if needed.

The narrator did a great job. She was easy to understand and spoke clearly and at a good pace.

Type 2 Diabetes: The Owner’s Manual is a resource that would be beneficial to anyone who has Type 2 Diabetes (or Carbosis) or to anyone who wants to learn more about the disease. In fact, Type 2 Diabetes runs in my family and, although I don’t have it, I plan on cutting my carbs dramatically (I love my bread😦 ).

Compelling and concise help for Type 2 Diabetics!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who suffers from what is commonly called Type 2 Diabetes or wants to live a more healthy and longer life. This work is concise, clear, and very readable.

What does Jan Moorehouse bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Jan's voice is clear and pleasant, making the reading of this "manual" a great experience.

Any additional comments?

Wein presents a compelling argument for the treatment of what is commonly called Type 2 Diabetes by controlling diet and limiting or eliminating carbs. The book is clear, easily readable and concise, and very persuasive! While warning of the dire consequences of a high-carb lifestyle, this work is ultimately very hopeful because it presents a clear path to better health that lies within our control.

Misinformation

The information in this book is almost all completely wrong. I was type 2 diabetic and reversed the condition by changing my diet to a whole foods plant based diet (WFPB) consisting of almost entirely carbohydrates. I will share with you the cause of type 2 diabetes in two words - intermyocellular lipids - Google it!
