Publisher's summary

The gripping second installment of the Pelican Harbor series from USA Today best-selling author Colleen Coble! Police Chief Jane Hardy has only just been reunited with her long-lost son when she learns of an impending terror attack that threatens everything she holds dear.

A lie changed her world. Police Chief Jane Hardy is still reeling from the scandal that rocked her small-town department just as she took over for her retired father - the man who wrecked her life with one little lie. Now she’s finally been reunited with her presumed-dead 15-year-old son, Will, and his father, documentarian Reid Dixon.

When a murder aboard the Gulf Coast oil platform Zeus exposes an environmental terrorist’s plot to flood Mobile Bay with crude oil, Jane and Reid must put their feelings for each other aside and work together to prevent the looming sabotage.

When the terrorist puts Will’s life on the line, protecting him could be the common ground Jane and Reid need...until ghosts from the past threaten to ruin their fragile relationship for good.

Jane has plenty of reasons to run. But what if she stays?

Pelican Harbor = Gulf Shores

Narrator's voice is pleasant but sometimes difficult to differentiate speakers.
#2 was less satisfying than #1 because the details of the attack are sketchy and some situations are simply unrealistic. Being able to leave a hospital without being asked to sign an AMA form? No way. Caught in a bear trap and not given crutches? Right. Still, no foul language. Characters believe in the existence of God but faith is not on prominent display.

Really keeps your interest

This is a very well written book. The pace is appropriate, the storyline very interesting and the outcome not obvious. Totally enjoyed the first one and now this one in the series.

Nice three-part story

I enjoyed the plots that crossed crossed onto one. I remember the oil spill and it was nice to dedicate a book to the importance of ocean preservation.

I like the narrators voice, for the most part. Sometimes it would be helpful for her to take a breath between time frames so we know time has passed.

Some of the facts in this one were driving me crazy. Like the passcode to Charles’s fortress could have easily be changed when Elizabeth moved out. And the ease of an ER patient having free roaming access to an ICU patient, as well as coincidentally having the same physician. But I live in a bigger city so perhaps that works in small town hospitals.

Overall, I’m looking forward to book three in the series.

Being able to find God after leaving the horrors of a cult

I liked the twists in the story line. It’s the best of Colleen’s work to this point. I like the search of God in the characters lives. I didn’t like how Jane was so wishy washy. She forgave and then something would happen and she didn’t just take one step back but seemed to digress back to square one.

Love it but…

I love the book but to be honest I’m just ready for it to be over. I’m gonna read the third book just because I don’t want to quit in the middle but really I feel like it’s drug on too long.

Couldn’t stop listening

Colleen Coble is a master of suspense. In this book we dig a little deeper into Jane’s past life. Reid and Will are thriving in Pelican Harbor and want to be part of Jane’s present and future life. Why then does someone want to take all that way? You will hate having to pause this book for any reason.

Likable characters

I have enjoyed this series . This is the first time I have read/listened to this author. I read the read first book “One Little Lie”, and I listened to “Two Reasons to Run” . I have already downloaded “Three Missing Days”. The characters are very likable. There are nice twists and turns. I am looking forward to finishing the series to find out “the rest of the story”.
