Publisher's summary

Thrilling, witty, and oh-so-sexy, Lynsay Sands' Argeneau novel brings together a beautiful Immortal and the man who is her destiny....

For someone who's been around for over 140 years, immortal Elspeth Argeneau hasn't done a whole lot of living. Now that she's moved away from her controlling mother, she's tracking down rogue vampires and enjoying some overdue freedom. A fling would be fun. A life mate can wait. Yet to Elspeth's surprise, her landlady's hot grandson checks both boxes.

Wyatt fell instantly in love with Elspeth four years ago. He's stunned to run into her again, especially as she has no memory of him. Then again, there are a lot of things about Elspeth that don't make sense, like the miraculous speed with which her wounds heal. And the chemistry that transforms every touch into an explosion of desire. But with mysterious "accidents" besieging Elspeth, the ex-Special Forces soldier appoints himself her bodyguard. But time is running out to uncover the truth about her enemies - and rediscover the man determined to love her for eternity.

Another interesting visit with the Argeneaus!

Setting: Contemporary Toronto
Genre: Paranormal romance
Elspeth Argeneau Pimms is 140 years old and desperate to get out from under her mother’s control. So she leaves her home in England for a teaching job in Toronto, but she’s doing some rear echelon work for the Enforcers until term starts. Unfortunately, her mother shows up 6 weeks later, along with her younger twin sisters. At the same time, she meets her landlady’s grandson, Wyatt. The thing is, Wyatt remembers El from four years ago when they spent a perfect day and amazing night together, then she disappeared. Now she doesn’t even know him. She does recognize that this guy is her life mate, but she doesn’t want to settle down. Also, the same day her mom shows up and she meets Wyatt, someone starts trying to kill her.
This is the 27th in this series, and is as good as those in the beginning (some of the more recent ones have been a little on the weak side IMHO). Although there is action, this is very much a character-driven story, and both hero and heroine are strongly written enough to carry it. Elspeth’s mother is a bit one dimensional, but I guess it’s difficult to make a control freak a sympathetic character. Other secondary characters are well written, and some of them show some growth through the story. Overall, I would say that the story is better than average.
As to the narration, I was never not aware that it could have been better. But then, I have never been 100% satisfied with any of the narrators in this series (in some cases I got the ebook because the narration was so bad). Charlotte North does not do a good English accent, and it sounds worse because she has to switch between North American and British English. Someone like Angela Dawe or Xe Sands would probably have been better, because either of them could pull off the demands of the story. Anyway, Ms North didn’t irritate me to the point of shutting off the book, but the performance barely falls into the average slot.

Good story, felt a little like it was reaching...

The writing is so good just as the other books it carries you right along never a full moment. The characters are well rounded and I like that we we're introduced to more elders their stories interest me too. I hope to find them added as well. None the less I thought with where the last book left off we would still be along those lines
So with that said this book was a bit of a reach like it's just please follow the leads and let me explore too where the story goes with the captured immortals...

Really good and engaging story :)

4-4.5 stars

This was a really good story. I liked both Elspeth and Wyatt and enjoyed their story.

Elspeth is an immortal that is 142 years old and just now getting out on her own. Elspeth has tried to gain her freedom before but her mother is very controlling, a lot more than Elspeth realized until she moved out on her own. Elspeth got a teaching job in Canada and moved away from her family but with 6 weeks, her mother shows up for a "surprise visit" and wanting to rule her life again.

Wyatt is an ex-special forces military guy that now works in private security. Wyatt was a bit of a playboy until 4 years ago when he met the woman of his dreams, Elspeth. She disappeared on him and he hasn't been able to forget her since. Wyatt is surprised when he goes to visit his Grandmother and finds Elspeth renting an apartment from her and doesn't seem to remember him.

When Elspeth moved to Canada, she found an apartment online to rent and moved when her mother was out of the country so she couldn't stop her. Elspeth's teaching job starts in a few weeks but until then, she's helping out the enforcers in the area in her extra time. Elspeth made friends with her landlady and is just getting settled into her life when her mother and twin sisters show up unexpectedly. Elspeth is extremely unhappy about this and as we see the interactions between them, it's easy to see why. Let me just say that Elspeth's mother is deeply disturbed and this led her to do things to control Elspeth and her 2 sisters...things all 3 sisters hate and is causing them to hate their mother (with good reason).

Wyatt is extremely attracted to Elspeth but he also doesn't know why she acts like she doesn't remember him and is a bit suspicious of her knowing his Grandmother and how close they seem to be. Unfortunately, some things happen that soon make it clear that someone is trying to kill Elspeth. Wyatt finds out about Immortals during one of these attempts and it also comes out that he's Elspeth's lifemate so Wyatt's memory isn't wiped. Wyatt decides to help protect Elspeth and it gives them a chance to figure some things out between themselves, including why Elspeth doesn't remember that she'd already found her lifemate 4 years ago. Thankfully, Elspeth and Wyatt are able to reconnect and come together as a couple once they handle Elspeth's mother (horrible woman!). After some drama and danger, the bad guy is captured and Elspeth and Wyatt are able to finally relax and start on a HEA together.

This was a really enjoyable story. I will admit that the part that bothered me the most was Elspeth's mother...how a mother could do that to her kids is beyond me so let me just warn you not to expect a reconciliation. Elspeth is a good heroine and I liked her very much. Wyatt is a really likable character too and Elspeth worked very well as a couple. Overall, I really liked the story and found it very engaging so I'd recommend it. :)
