You Can't Kill Us

I've been procrastinating listening to this book. Because I feel like it's a self help book. And so far I've been disappointed with self help books despite my addiction to them. I just couldn't stomach the idea of being disappointed with anything Ariel Bloomer had written. I have been in love with Ariel Bloomer's lyrics and Icon For Hire since scripted. I feel like she speaks to my soul and Icon For Hire is an endless source of Inspiration. I really enjoyed getting to know "Amy" and discovery the stories behind the music. It felt so authentic and hearing from Ariel herself made it so much more effective. She answered a lot of the questions, I've always had for her. This is super insightful and as always inspiring.

Self-Help for Self-Esteem

A good motivational and uplifting story/biography of the author, Ariel Bloomer. Ariel is the vocalist with the band Icon for Hire. She tells her story of on the road tours and the life of a rockstar. At first when reading I was skeptical what this had to do with art and where she was going with her stories. Her stories were interesting and her reading and vocals and articulation was excellent given she is a rock singer. Ariel voiced enthusiasm, a love of life, and appreciation for her singing talents. She fought human battles, emotional struggles, and deep falls into the pit of despair. She pulled herself out through spirituality, which she also questioned, but I believe she is a person who doesn’t leave one stone unturned. Therefore, Ariel turned her pains into her art form of loving who she is and putting her soul into enjoying everything about her life, including the continuous ups and downs.

If you want to read an uplifting get your sad soul off the couch then listen to this audio book. I loved her high spirited voice. I am years older than Ariel, I’ve been in the pit of despair and I recognized some of her emotional struggles. I would recommend this audio book to lift your spirits, to realize you are worth more than you realize, and to add some humor to your never ending questions about life and its continuous ups and downs.

Inspirational

I loved this, everything about it. the first half felt like my youth just with all of the details being different. The narration reeled me in right away and kept pulling me further in. The only axe I have to grind with this is where was this in 2004 huh? HUH?!
I would recommend this to all, those who currently struggle, and those who have overcome their inner stuggles.

Ariel Bloomer is my hero.

Ariel and Shawn are people that I strive to be and this book and Ariel's narrative makes it. I was lucky enough to see her during the Turn Your Pain Into Art tour and the emotions she gives during any performance, audio book or singing her heart out, bring me to tears. Love you both, and I look forward to your next project, and many more to come.

Overall. . . A life saver!!!!

Thank you, Ms Bloomer. Who knew the life of a young rocker would affect this 65 year-old-grandma like this book did? Certainly not me when I bought "the daily deal". But that little voice said "grab it!" Bottom line, I'm now committed to painting or sewing or gardening an hour a day. A beautiful, sometimes brutal, hour for me. And that Does bring joy which, with work, will become easier and easier to spread through the rest of my life. Amazing.

Inspiring a bit

Overall, I liked it. It made me feel inspired to take action on some things.... Directly or indirectly. It was a bit whiny at times and I found myself not liking some of the sappy sweetness of parts.

An absolutely beautiful and inspiring read by an inspiring musician/singer

A few days ago I decided to buy my own physical copy of Turn Your Pain Into Art (I wanted the real thing that I could read.) and after I had made the purchase I noticed that the Audio version was free on Audible with a thirty day free trial (or something like that.) so I decided too give it a listen and I was NOT disappointed. Ariel has written such a personal book and I absolutely love how she takes her own experiences and lessons she has learned and incorporates them into tips and advice that ANYONE can use to better their own lives. I have never, since I could read non-picture books, read a book more powerful or relatable than Turn Your Pain Into Art. Ariel explains what it’s like to live with Depression, Self-Hatred and Self-Harm to a T. I’ll be honest, I cried A LOT listening to the Audio version alone and I am sure I will cry even more when I get to read the book in real life. I cried because Ariel’s descriptions of her struggles and what she felt were so REAL and so close to the stuff I have dealt with in MY life. I felt a kind of relief when she started to talk about her experiences with Religion as they came very close to what I have dealt with when it came to Religious people. The Judgement, Being told I was nothing without God and that I had to obey EVERYTHING my elders told me or I’d burn in hell. Ariel, Thank you for doing what you do. Thank you for making your music and most of all thank you for writing a book so amazing that I will never forget. Thank you for giving me a guide so I can turn MY pain into Art. You’re truly an amazing woman and a great inspiration.

Ends Well

Almost turned it off two or three times early in the book, not really needing a mediocre musician who claims to speak for God, but I stayed with it. Skip the first two or three hours of too strict parents and guilt, and it’s pretty good advice, especially for young girls. The title is misleading, perhaps, unless you consider living beyond self-reproach to be art.
