Publisher's Summary

If I'm going to tell the story of a life, my life, then I need to tell it warts and all. If the tale is too saccharine sweet then what can the reader take away from it? What do they learn about you? I've written everything down. The shit, the death, fun, naughtiness, addiction, laughter, laughter, laughter, some tears and lots of love and happiness. That ,to me, is a better reflection of a human's life.

Nick's family life was difficult, blighted by alcoholism, illness and sudden misfortune, meaning they lost everything overnight. He left school early and drifted from job to job, dogged by his own personal demons. It's something of a miracle that Nick survived and even more that he would achieve such success with his writing, acting and comedy.

In Truths, Half Truths and Little White Lies, Nick paints a brilliantly funny, moving and brutally candid portrait of childhood, adolescence and eventual success.

Beautiful and insightful

As a fan of Nick Frost and the work he's done it's great to get an insight into who he is as a person. It's not often you get to listen to someone talk about their lives and their experiences. Hearing him read the story you get the sense that he's not reading from a book but in fact hanging out with you recounting his life informally.

Beautiful

Many of you may know him from his many films and television credits. This story isn’t about that, well kind of it is. It’s the journey of how he found himself, lost himself, loved, lost love, good times, bad times. It’s the story of him and it was an amazing one 5/5.

Fried Gold

Don't judge him, he's from Essex. If I were to judge him, I would say, he himself is indeed fried gold. I only wish the book was longer. Thank you Mr Frost.

Proper honest storytelling.

I loved that this was a proper honest story of growing up and dealing with less than perfect circumstances in far from perfect ways. I grew up in a very similar place at the same time so much of the madness was familiar to me. As much as it's a story about being a bit of a fuck up in London at that time as it is a story about friendships and trying different ways of dealing with very difficult shit. I liked the gritty details of average stories and bits and pieces. Even the exaggerations and flights of fancy.
I love that people can get lucky even when it seems most bleak. It's also about powerful friendships and acceptance. That it wasn't just a 'look at how great my life is now'.
Nice work mate.

Great laugh

Really enjoyed listening, laugh out loud funny at times. Loved that Nick read like it he was telling a story and not reading a book

Funny but also touching

A surprisingly touching and poignant book. It touched a nerve as someone who grew up drunk and in London during the same decades. Well written and fascinating. Can’t wait for the sequel.

Enlightening, Entertaining and Moving

Very entertaining and interesting look at Nick's life, very much bolstered by narration from the man himself.

In turns surprising, funny, a little shocking and very moving, if you enjoy Nick's work or not, it's a book worth experiencing.

Peters out ever so slightly towards the end, where it fades out to bridge to a follow up volume.

Well worth the cost and effort!

Unique Frost humour & gut-wrenchingly sad

Hilarious and also very sad. Frost's voice makes the book come alive. Would definitely recommend.

Funny and touching

Being a fan of Spaced and Shaun of the dead, a clubber and having suffered similar personal loss, I really connected with Nicks experiences and humour. I was waiting for the dull non-funny stuff in the middle that other reviews mentioned, but never noticed it. Walking to work listening to this, laughing like a drain, I must have looked like a complete nutter. Totally worth it though.

An insight into a naturally funny man

When you watch Nick Frost on TV or in a film, its easy to think his easy-go-lucky persona is just that, and his life has always been full of laughter and cheer.

This audiobook (narrated by himself) proves that behind most clowns is a sadness. He doesn't play up to this though, and you get the feeling that him writing this was as much therapy as it is entertaining to us.

Nick Frost is a good man, a man who was caught on the culture of the 90's after suffering immense heartache and crippling insecurities that left him with only really one goal most working class men face - survive. Live each day as it comes and keep hoping something better will come along.

It did - and we are all grateful for that.

Loved it.

Always kind of liked Frost and didn't know what to expect. Turned out i loved the book and the reasoning of it, to basically let his lad know (or anyone else in the future that cares about him) what he got up to and who he was in general whilst growing up. Brutal honesty and well written/narated. I always like it when someone in his position doesn't take himself to serious in the public eye and doesn't turn into an pretentious prick. Down to earth, funny, and lots of stuff in there to relate to as a working class member of society. HOPE THIS ISN'T THE LAST, PLEASE WRITE MORE.

So good I listened twice

What a fantastically unexpected and rich life Nick Frost has lived. I wasn't even aware of what a kibbutz was until this audio book. Enjoyed this more that Simon Peggs autobiography but that's just personal taste. I have just finished listening to this for the second time and would listen to it again. When's the next addition due Nick?

not what you expect but good

You may expect this to be full of show biz anecdotes. It isn't. Candid, honest, sometimes funny and always interesting. Made all the better by Nick reading it himself.

Entertaining but not the whole story

Nick Frost is a likeable chap who I have enjoyed watching in both TV and film roles, particularly Spaced and the Cornetto trilogy. He goes into detail on the events that have formed him, sometimes with touching honesty. However I feel an autobiography should cover a full life story (as up to date as possible) and Nick stops short of that, saving some time for a future book perhaps. So whilst an enjoyable listen I felt this slightly took the edge off the full experience, hence not quite getting five stars.

Made it to the end

Not bad but not all that gripping. Maybe a bigger fan would find it better. I made it to the end and was never bored but also didn't 'putting it down' between listening sessions.

No holds barred memoir from a man finding his way.

What made the experience of listening to Truths, Half Truths and Little White Lies the most enjoyable?

I have been a fan of Nick Frost since Shaun of the Dead, where I first experienced his knack for comedy and saw the real life friendship with Simon Pegg. There was no doubt in my mind that they were friends in real life and I wondered how these two blokes met. Well this book answers that question and so much more. Nick tells his warts and all story with more truths than half truths with an open honesty which will leave me thinking about his story for some time to come. I have never met the man but this book makes me feel I have.

What did you like best about this story?

Nick has some dark days described in this book but the good shines through when he is talking about his best mate Simon Pegg and you can really feel that brotherly connection that the two obviously share. The Pie Gate story cracked me up when he is impersonating Simon's voice and reaction, it was something straight out of Spaced. His Edgar was hilarious too.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I churned through the book in a couple of days, not wishing it would end.

Any additional comments?

I can only hope that Nick definitely follows this up with another memoir as he had stated he will. I love the fact he wrote it for his son (fingers crossed for more Frosts as well) and did the narration himself. This is a keeper.

self indulgent pap

used to like him in his movies, now I know what a narcissistic misogynist he is I don’t know whether I’ll be able to take him seriously when he next plays a loveable oaf. He seems obsessed with making sure we know pretty girls will sleep with him

Funny, genuine guy nick frost. 👍

loved this book from start to finish.
the way nick tells his stories really made me laugh, the slang is hilarious.
although troubled by a lot of down times he always bounces back.
if your not offended by bad language and like random funny stories about life experiences, this book is for you.

Worth listening to!

An amazing book that delves into the struggles Nick Frost went through in his life and is a tale of perseverance and friendship. The book is made all the better by Nick Frost reading it and at points you can hear the emotion in his voice, definetly worth a listen, whether or not you are fan.

Please listen to this, it is soo good!

I’m prob on my fourth listen of it, i grew up in a similar area at a similar time and it was great to head another account of life at that time bottled.

He is a great narrator, one of my top five celebrity read bios (Brian Blessed is the top , naturally)

Do yourself a favour and spend a credit on this
