Publisher's summary

At 38, Zavier “Cade” McCade has it all: a military career he can be proud of, a successful business, and a close-knit group of family and friends. A former Army Special Forces captain, Cade leaves the military to create Custos Securities, a burgeoning protection agency that provides unparalleled security for both civilians and corporations across the US.

After a string of disastrous relationships - and a narrow escape from an abusive partner - Braden Cross is finally putting his past to rest. Combining both his passion for baking and his knack for business, Braden owns the Sugar n' Spice Cafe with his best friend, who concocts exotic coffees and teas that pair perfectly with his decadent confections.

When a stalker sets his sights on Braden, the young pastry chef's world is turned upside down. More frightened than he cares to admit and not knowing where to turn, Braden is relieved when Cade steps in to offer his protection. Caught up in a maelstrom of threats, break-ins, and vandalism, the two draw closer together.

Braden eventually realizes he can trust Cade with his life, but he finds himself wondering...can he trust him with his heart?

Contains mature themes.

Great.

This audiobook was given to me for a honest unbiased review. I Loved it, was very well written, and Tristan James did a great job at narrating it. The only hitch i had was the ending a a little abrupt, other then that a great book.

Trusting Cade

I really enjoy this book and the second of the series. It’s interesting how our tastes change. This used to my one of my favorite audiobooks to listen to but this time it was a little difficult. I guess my listening tastes have changed. The narrator is very robotic sounding something I’ve never noticed before. I tried to alter the speeds but that didn’t help.

Wonderful series start

This is one of my favorite series. Add to that, the talented Tristan James narrating, and my world has righted itself. I fell in love with Tristan’s narration in the marshals series by Mary Calmes. This book is so exciting with blooming romance, hints of military, superb support characters, great family support, arch villain, etc. I could go on but I don’t want to give much away. I have already read the three books in this series, but I always get the audio when it becomes available so I can listen several more times to the series. I have to say the author also done a terrific job and balancing the characters so they were open, honest, and intelligent and not over the top alphas. Yes I love some alpha strength but most times it is overdone for my taste. Did not feel that way in this book at all. Loved some insight into the security firm that’s ran by out main character too. I found it fascinating. So Tristan, hope to see book 2 soon. I was never known for my patience, LOL

Some details off but great characters

So the narrator got the names wrong of the main characters a couple of times in the first part of the book but after that settled in and did a great job..not a lot of variety in the different voices but overall a nice performance.
The story itself is lovely. I love Cade and how protective he is. The problem is that the author clearly doesn't have any experience with a lot of the things that she goes into great detail about. This is where writing from your own experience really helps. For example, the hospital experiences are completely fabricated. For example there is no tons of family in the ICU, picking your own nursing staff, no watching from the upstairs when someone is having surgery. There are no privileges in the ER for some random doctor unless he actually has privileges and this patient needs them, anybody with a head injury would get a head CT etc. Some of the details about police work were completely off like the detective coming and being able to get fingerprints and be in and house and out of the house in less than 3 hours. I think what really bit the author in the butt was that all of the details she went into weren't necessary and oftentimes were distracting from the real story because they were not in any way correct. Couple of times in a story that's fine, it's fiction, but excessive amounts of details were incorrect regarding type 1 diabetes, hospital experiences, etc. Just write what you know or don't write in so much detail about things you have no clue about because it distracts from lovely characters and a great dynamic.

Only thing I was off put by was the constant use of ‘boy’ kinda weird.

Cade and Braden's story is incredible.

I have read this book more times than I can count and hearing it come to life was incredible. From their first meeting to the ending of the book, you will be cheering on for Cade and Braden while cursing those that wish them harm. I cannot wait to hear the next story.

I enjoyed the narrator and believe he did a good job on bringing them to life.

great story but missed something

the book is really great, I love this series but the narrator rhythm I didn't like: you hardly recognize who is talking and all the book is narrated with same rhythm, has no ups and downs as the story and i could not feel the emotions of passion of the characters
