Publisher's Summary

Pet-friendly dog bar owner Maggie Patterson juggles her new love life, a local murder, and a name-making editorial spread in the hilarious second entry in this charming cozy series.

Although still not quite a dog lover, Maggie Patterson meets with her new group of dog-loving friends for "Yappy Hour" every Friday night in the idyllic seaside town of Pacific Cove, California. Both she and her sister Rachel have put last year's murderous summer behind them, with Rachel even securing a headline feature for the "Wine and Bark" in the famous Doggie Day magazine. But when her sister comes down with a case of salmonella poisoning, Maggie is left to run the business in her absence. Even worse, Maggie overhears an argument between her friend Yolanda and Fran, who runs the Chic Chickie shop. Then Fran turns up dead.

With evidence piling up against Yolanda, the Roundup Crew is desperate to find the real killer and convince Maggie to investigate. With the help of charming detective Officer Brad Brooks, Maggie finds that everyone has a motive, even some of her beloved Roundup Crew friends. Maggie must put her new job as a purser on hold while she tracks down a killer. Will Maggie's investigation kill her budding romance with Officer Brooks? Sometimes getting to the truth is not for the faint of bark...er...heart. Between running the bar, managing her love life, and solving a murder in time for the editorial spread, things are about to get a little hairy in this laugh-out-loud cozy mystery.

No More

I enjoyed the first story and looked forward to the next book. However, I won't be reading the next one. This latest installment was horrible. The lead character removes evidence on more than one occasion, accuses suspects without evidence, jumps to conclusions without rational evidence to back up her opinions and basically acts irrational throughout the book. There is also a love triangle between the lead character, a policeman and a chef. I finished the book (I don't know why), but, I won't get the next one.

Fluff

I don't mind a fluffy mystery, and I love dogs, but the narrator did a terrible job. The female characters all sounded like dumb "valley girls" and the Male characters sounded like idiots.

Needs improvement

The problem with most cozy mysteries is that almost all writers do not give logical reasons for the "hero" to investigate the crime.
The "hero" assumes the Police will railroad the friend or coworker.
The "hero" chases after clues and then comes to a conclusion based on little to no evidence; also no forensic evidence, autopsy evidence, or any evidence in the Police files.
This scenario is played out in this book to the "hero's" embarrassment. I personally am tired of it. The Author 's need to re-think their plots.

As to the specifics of this book, I'm disappointed in the Sister. The Sister becomes ill and expects the "hero" to take over her business. My first thought was, where is the assistant? The owner can't always be at work. We all have Doctors appointments, DMV (BMV) appointments, etc. Expecting your sister to possibly lose her NEW job is selfish, especially as she was unemployed.
I found the magazine reporter very annoying and unprofessional. I would have been on the phone to the editor. Hey. I can be easily annoyed!
On the plus side , I listened to the book to the end and it kept my attention.
Do I recommend it, yes. For all its faults, the story is engaging and the main characters situations or personalities haven't been changed.
I will listen to the next in the series as the writer and narrator are pretty good.

Not for me.

I couldn’t take it no more. I had to quit listening at chapter 5. Yolanda’s voice was killing me. I’m not a dumb blond fan. Sorry

Trigger Happy

I had a hard time believing this story. Maggie just wasn’t smart. Hardly believable that Maggie’s boss was not ferocious and even didn’t fire her for practically no notice that she wasn’t going on the cruise. Lastly I still can’t understand why they thought the cat store was there completion

Narrator is great

Fun to follow this gang around. There are small little twists that may make you reconsider. Not gory or overly romantic just fun friends.

this is not narrated by Caroline Shaffer

the narrator of yappy hour was great. this is not Caroline Shaffer. she didn't even pronounce words the same and has a lisp.

Well, after listening the narration improved, but still some odd areas with a pronounced lisp
