Publisher's Summary

Pet-friendly dog bar owner Maggie Patterson juggles her new love life, a local murder, and a name-making editorial spread in the hilarious second entry in this charming cozy series.

Although still not quite a dog lover, Maggie Patterson meets with her new group of dog-loving friends for "Yappy Hour" every Friday night in the idyllic seaside town of Pacific Cove, California. Both she and her sister Rachel have put last year's murderous summer behind them, with Rachel even securing a headline feature for the "Wine and Bark" in the famous Doggie Day magazine. But when her sister comes down with a case of salmonella poisoning, Maggie is left to run the business in her absence. Even worse, Maggie overhears an argument between her friend Yolanda and Fran, who runs the Chic Chickie shop. Then Fran turns up dead.

With evidence piling up against Yolanda, the Roundup Crew is desperate to find the real killer and convince Maggie to investigate. With the help of charming detective Officer Brad Brooks, Maggie finds that everyone has a motive, even some of her beloved Roundup Crew friends. Maggie must put her new job as a purser on hold while she tracks down a killer. Will Maggie's investigation kill her budding romance with Officer Brooks? Sometimes getting to the truth is not for the faint of bark...er...heart. Between running the bar, managing her love life, and solving a murder in time for the editorial spread, things are about to get a little hairy in this laugh-out-loud cozy mystery.

No More

I enjoyed the first story and looked forward to the next book. However, I won't be reading the next one. This latest installment was horrible. The lead character removes evidence on more than one occasion, accuses suspects without evidence, jumps to conclusions without rational evidence to back up her opinions and basically acts irrational throughout the book. There is also a love triangle between the lead character, a policeman and a chef. I finished the book (I don't know why), but, I won't get the next one.

Fluff

I don't mind a fluffy mystery, and I love dogs, but the narrator did a terrible job. The female characters all sounded like dumb "valley girls" and the Male characters sounded like idiots.

Not for me.

I couldn’t take it no more. I had to quit listening at chapter 5. Yolanda’s voice was killing me. I’m not a dumb blond fan. Sorry

TSTL. Maggie

The main Character is most unbelievable… who is that stupid and that rude? The other characters are believable. I’m disappointed in Maggie’s personally but the stories and reading are great! Please fix her awful personality!

Thirsty

I enjoyed the story, and I think the author kept the story‘s movements flowing. I have got to tell you I have never met a protagonist who was so thirsty. Not only can’t she decide between two men, but she’s perpetually in a state of hot and bother.

A perrfect mystery

I enjoyed this humours, furry mystery. This is the second book in this series and it was just as much fun as the last. Each book can be read or listened to as a standalone but the enjoyment does continues on from the last and with the same great cast of characters. The author obviously has great fun coming up with food and drink based animal names, which were amusing.and I love that most of the action takes place in a dog friendly bar. The characters are say we say interesting if not oddball, I personally don't see the attraction to chickens but as Yolanda obsession it is certainly a hoot. Along with the wacky relatives. There's the normal love triangle of who she will end up with but it was the mystery that I enjoyed. There was plenty of suspects and a nice mix of motives. I had guessed the killer but the author has me changing my mind by the end. Just a nice well rounded cozy mystery and a great way to enjoy a few hours.
Just days before Maggie is to start her new job her sister gets sick and ends up in hospital, with no body to run the doggy bar Maggie steps up and puts her life in hold until the next cruise ship leaves port. Serving drinks to the thirsty customers and there dogs is the least of her worries when she gets news that the bar might be featured on the cover of a popular magazine if they can impress the editor. Then Maggie stumbles over a dead body in a chic chuckle shop and chicken fashion extraordinaire Yolanda becomes the number one suspect. Somebody also breaks into Maggie s house and the last thing she can do is sail of into the sunset doing her dream job. Can Maggie and the rest of the yappy crew impress the editor? And solve the murder? even if some of the clues starting to point to someone she calls a friend?
I liked the narrator. She has a pleasant voice and uses it well to help you imagine the story unfolding.

Weak Protagonist

The sleuth/protagonist in this series is NOT likeable. I am all for not making women characters perfect and altogether likeable but this one is really bad. She doesn't really care about anyone but her sister, she is NOT smart constantly making terrible selfish unfounded decisions and she doesn't actually figure out who the killer is, its completely by accident and with the assistance of others.

The sister's character is non-existant and serves almost NO purpose. The sidekick character Yolanda is a stereotypical superficial silly blonde with a childish voice and I HATE that.

I listened to this series because they were free with audible plus and thank God because if I had actually paid to listen to this I would have been demanding a refund. I would not read/listen to anything else from this author again.

Unbearable lead character

I do want to like this book but how can you when the main character is 2 dimensional 90% of the tine and hideously superficial and flakey the other 10%? There are some fairly pleasant and interesting other characters but I just can’t get past the dim-witted, hysterical lead.
