Publisher's Summary

I work as a demon slayer, so I lead a simple life slaughtering monsters. As long as no one learns that I’m descended from a forbidden line of Dragon Bloods, I can keep my job and my life.

But when a powerful fae king realizes I’m his fated mate, I’ve got problems. Especially since A, he hates me, and B, he learns my secret. It puts my whole life at risk, and there's one solution.... I must kill my mate.

The stars align when my employers send me to the fae kingdom to compete in the Trials of the Fae. My real goal? Investigate the king for the murder of hundreds.

But the king only has eyes only for me, even when I’m in disguise. He senses that I’m his mate, and our attraction is off the charts. No matter how much we mistrust each other, we can't stay apart. But when he realizes what I’m up to, there will be hell to pay. That is, if I survive.

Omg narrator horrible

I'm not even sure if I'll finish it the narrator is so bad! It's making it difficult to even focus on the story.

I didnt like the narrator

The narration was disappointing. Her voice characterization was good but her first person narration was cold, clinical, and the cadence monotone. She ends almost every sentence with the same tone whether she's describing molds or a passionate kiss. Her intonation was clipped, clinical, cold, has no character at all.

Good story line but...

This book seems to have a good story line, but it feels very choppy. I feel like this is a good store, but maybe a different speaker? Not terrible if you are between a series and will entertain you. But not something to get “this is going to be AMAZING” excited about.

Action, Magic and fun!

Mari was my least favorite of Hall’s characters so far; her whole boobs on display goth thing just isn’t my type of person, but I loved the idea of her being a mate to a Fae King. Super awesome! Their connection wasn’t quite there for me though; I felt it was only based on attraction and surface level, so I wanted more depth. Mari was judgmental too often and really should get the full story before judging someone. I loved the tournament scenario; fun obstacles and cool creatures. Mari got to kick some major butt! Totally entertaining! Mari ended up being okay, but she really should’ve talked with her sister a lot earlier. The basic story for Hall’s books are the same, but there are entertaining differences that keep me totally engaged in everyone of her series that I read. Love the adventure and all the magical elements. Hall’s series are just fun, easy reads that are just something wonderful to read when you want something light.

The narrator also does a terrific job and I’d recommend listening if you choose to read this story. She fits the characters well.

Looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
