About this listen

A story finally told from an enlisted soldier’s unique perspective.

Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Bradley P. Jones, in his wildest dreams, never thought he would make a career out of the military. Like many, he joined for the college tuition assistance. He was determined to serve out his first and only enlistment, and then move on to bigger and better. He managed to leave the military—called a break in service—for four years, but the military never left his thoughts or his system.

There was something about serving his country that constantly called to him through his missionary service in south America and then into his university studies. A calling Bradley finally succumbed to, reenlisting back into an AH-64 Apache helicopter battalion near the university. From there, his service led to a career he loved working on Apaches as a full-time federal employee, while starting a family with his wife as a newlywed.

While serving in Kuwait on September 11, 2001, his life and career, along with everyone in uniform, changed along with the rest of the country. From there, his career trajectory seemed to him to be predetermined, finally culminating in his appointment to serve his beloved fellow soldiers as the top enlisted member in the battalion.

In Treading the Deep, Bradley’s humor and faith promoting experiences, restores listeners' beliefs in the tenacity of the human spirit and its ability to ultimately overcome, no matter the trials or circumstances.

You know what I didn’t read in “Treading The Deep”? Blame … Fear (doubt yes … apprehension yes … Fear no) … self pity …

Bradley Jones is a man … like all of us … However, he “chose” to listen … he “chose” to learn … he “chose” to struggle against adversity …. He “chose” to believe in his God, and follow his heart and religion to achieve a higher purpose! These are not easy choices … but they define greatness!

The Military gave him the tools … his wise and mature supervisors gave him the instructions on how to use the tools …. His God have him strength and a glimpse of his overall purpose … however …. HE HAD TO DO THE WORK!

In the end,.
THAT is what defines a person, THAT is what defines a leader! Good job Command Sergeant Major Jones and thank you for a great read!

The author has a pleasant reading voice (I listened at 1.5 speed). This title has an impressive narrative style and compelling triggers to keep the reader looking forward to the next page. From the grueling growth of boot camp and a myriad of military experiences to poignant personal moments, Jones truly takes the reader on his journey. While illustrating the difficulties and problems in American with honesty, he weaves an undeniable thread of positive, a-political patriotism, gratitude and hope. It’s a great read for anyone interested in the last 4 decades of technology development, military life, navigating the challenges of work-life balance or looking for an uplifting read.

Impressively approachable and realistically patriotic
