Publisher's summary

The Audible and New York Times best-selling Dispatcher series returns with a brand-new mystery, performed by Zachary Quinto.

The world has changed. Now, when someone is murdered, they almost always come back to life—and there are professionals, called “dispatchers”, who kill in order to save lives, to give those near the end a second chance. Tony Valdez is a dispatcher, and he has never been busier.

But for as much as the world has changed, some things have stayed the same. Greed, corruption, and avarice are still in full swing. When Tony is called to a Chicago emergency room by an old friend and fellow dispatcher, he is suddenly and unwillingly thrown into a whirlpool of schemes and plots involving billions of dollars, with vast caches of wealth ranging from real estate to cryptocurrency up for grabs.

All Tony wants to do is keep his friend safe. But it’s hard to do when friends keep secrets, enemies offer seductive deals, and nothing is ever what it seems. The world has changed...but the stakes are still life and death.

Only wish it were longer

The characters and story move along quickly, a very entertaining listen, with the performance being very high quality.

Great Psychological Thriller

The last of the series. They were short but fast-paced, intriguing and a very unusual concept. I usually like longer novels that allow for character development. Scalzi has a knack for getting you invested in the characters quickly. I'll have to try some of Scalzi's other novels and see how those go.
Highly recommend this series.

Might be the best

This is a great story. The first book my soon was ever excited for. He counted down the days until it's release and neither of us where disappointed. Honestly this may be the best of the 3 books so far.

Interesting mystery

I don’t fully comprehend how dispatching works. If a character kills himself and doesn’t reincarnate, why might police suspect murder?

This might also be a cautionary tale about cryptocurrency, risks and potential abuses. Who can trust people with so much wealth?

Another excellent installment!

Full disclosure: The book is set during the pandemic and deals with how COVID affects the magnificent world that Mr. Scalzi has built. It's fascinating, but could be triggering to those that have been sick with COVID or (like in my case) still are sick with Long COVID, or if you have lost someone to COVID. It is not graphic in its descriptions but does dwell on them a bit.

I once again thoroughly enjoyed the fantastic partnership of Scalzi & Quinto (almost as much as Scalzi & Wheaton. Wow, they both sound like law firms.) Great writing and narrating.

Once again, wonderful mystery and a good thriller. I find myself extremely invested in both Tony and Detective Landon's stories, and I truly do wish for Mr. Scalzi to write more of them.

I hope you take a chance to listen to these three (so far) shorts. It will be time well spent.

Always delivers: great team

I don't think I've read anything of John Scalzi's work that I didn't like and this third book in the Dispatcher series is no exception. Zachary Quinto narrates superbly, he brings a dry wit to the the words that I am sure they were intended to convey, it sounds so perfect. The story is clever, twisty but not over convoluted. You don't NEED to have read the first two books to read this one, it is a stand alone, but some of the contex will be better understood if you have. It's quite a short audio book at only just under 4 hours, but what needed to be said got said. Will still keep buying anything he releases.

Enjoying this story

Needs a bit more editing, there were two spots where dialogue was repeated. The story itself is great & really enjoy Zachery Q, I picture him as Tony.

Another great story

This premise holds endless possibilities, and I hope Acalzi explores them all. Is this fifteen words yet?
