Publisher's Summary

Tokyo is a beautiful, fast moving, spiritual, dynamic city, which combines religion and spirituality seamlessly into everyday life. A city that worships the beauty of spring flowers and nature, whilst having the most advanced technology in the world. A city of culture, religion, business, fashion, and shopping. Despite being the biggest city in the world, Tokyo is very accessible with one of the best underground systems in the world, so you can travel Tokyo in style and comfort. Similarly, the high speed trains mean that you can travel around Japan quickly, and be back for dinner. With more Michelin-starred restaurants than anywhere else in the world, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to eating.

Tokyo is becoming a fashion hub, with America's top celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Katy Perry wearing Japanese fashions and looking to Japan for inspiration. Everyone should visit Harajuku to see the young fashionistas in action.

If you like gaming head to Akihabara to find state-of-the-art electronic goods, and while away the hours in huge arcades. If you like sightseeing, Tokyo has some of the most beautiful shrines in the world, with elegant parks steeped in history. Although only the Imperial Gardens are open to the public for most of the year, the gardens are set in 52 acres of beautiful parks and well worth a visit. Marvel at the beauty and intricacy of the theatre and dance, or enjoy the high energy modern dance Harajuku, based on ancient dance moves. If you like arts, why not go to a Tea Ceremony, study flower arranging, and visit silk factories then browse the pottery shops for inspiration?

Party animals are well catered for with lots of Izakaya's (gastropubs), nightclubs, and karaoke bars. Live music is very popular and you will find lots of live gigs to suit every taste.

Misleading title

Close to half of the book is about Thailand not about Tokyo. The narrator sounds as if he is bored and is speeding through the book. Other than that, the book has some useful information.

At least learn basic Japanese pronunciation!

What would have made Tokyo Travel Guide better?

If the narrator had bothered to learn basic Japanese pronunciations. How can an audiobook teach you essential phrases when the pronunciation is so bad that a Japenese person wouldn't even understand what's being said?!

What was most disappointing about Japan Travel Guides’s story?

Besides the terrible pronunciations, I was disappointed with the reading of all the addresses. This was more like a book for the sight impaired than an audio book.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

No understanding of basic Japanese pronunciations. How did he get the job?

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Tokyo Travel Guide?

I would have edited out the reading of all the addresses of referenced locations. Listening in the car made it challenging to advance through those parts.

Any additional comments?

The end of this "Tokyo Travel Guide" talks about going to Thailand. What? Where did that come from? There was some interesting information about Tokyo and Japanese customs which is why I didn't return it.

Glad it helped!

I am always intrigued by asian culture and land. I used to go to two parts of Japan often but never was in to the whole wandering to explore the land too much. With this book I am able to explore the land there in Japan in new lights with different views and locations within Japan. I also love the color bursts of this book which keeps a listener's attention. The buildings and establishments are so profound and beautiful. I do definitely see a trip back to Japan to see some of those buildings and so forth in the near future.
