Publisher's Summary

It’s Christmas in Estes Park, Colorado: cozy fires, twinkling lights, soft snowfall, and...murder.

The winter holidays in charming Estes Park lull Winifred Page and her corgi, Watson, into thoughts of eggnog and gingersnaps as they settle into their new home. Fred’s dream bookshop is becoming a reality, and with Christmas only days away, her only concerns are spending time with family, enforcing Watson’s diet, and finding the perfect gifts.

The toy store beckons Fred and her friend Katie, who dash in out of the cold during a shopping spree to discover handmade toys, cuddly stuffed animals...and a dying man on the floor. When Katie’s desperate attempts to save the man end in her being taken in for his murder, Fred once again dons her detective hat. She puts aside her Christmas list and - with Watson sniffing around - begins a list of suspects.

But as quickly as clues point to one person, new discoveries shift the spotlight to another. With Katie’s freedom in the balance, Fred has little time to think about gifts or to enjoy the holiday lights and music. A killer is on the loose, one who became violent in a picture-perfect Christmas toy shop, and Fred and Watson can’t begin to predict what might happen next....

enjoying this series

So this is the second book in the series and I've listened to both. The narrator has become the main character Winnifred "Fred" to me. She does a great job narrating the story. This book takes place around Christmas which is a holiday I love. The idea of another murder taking place in this sleepy little town is probably far fetched but it's fiction and it doesn't matter to me. There is a little bit of a pattern so far. A truly unlikable character is killed off and the person responsible isn't someone you would expect. Still, I didn't guess at the culprit. I had no clue until the last clue was revealed and our heroine figured it out as well.

Fred is a clever character who I like a lot. I feel like I can relate to her. She loves desserts, isn't a fan of running, she loves her family and she is a good friend. I am not so much of an animal lover but can understand her love for her corgi, Watson. There is a little bit of romance brewing even though Fred isn't looking for anyone to spend her life with. The genre isn't romance, I know. Even though this series is cozy mysteries, the romantic in me still can't help but wish Fred would find love.

Can't wait for more of this quirky mystery series.

Audible: get the rest of this series!

I listened to this book right on the heels of the first and enjoyed it just as much. Loved the setting, plot and the characters - especially Watson. I want to read the next in the series but sadly Audible only has the first two. I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Traitorous Toys

What an enjoyable cozy mystery!

In the small town of Estes Park it’s almost Christmas. While doing some last minute shopping a dying man is discovered in the small toy shop. It’s up to Fred and Watson to unravel the mystery before the wrong person is locked up for the crime.

This book is my first listen in the series and it can certainly be enjoyed as a stand alone. That being said I look forward to going back and listening to the first book in the series... not because I have to, but because I want to.

Traitorous Toys

This is such a fun series! I love Watson he definitely has his own doggie personality. And all the characters are so fun and unique in their own way. I totally detest the lady detective (I think we’re supposed to though!). I am waiting on Fred to put her in her place! I love how the story turns out and look forward to more from this series. Great job on the narration Angie makes the story fun and easy to listen to. This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Another wonderful mystery!

Fred is back at it, it’s Christmas and she is still working on her bookstore, The Cozy Corgi. Going about her daily routine, avoiding the men and just trying to lay low with some simple holiday shopping, she and Kate stumble on yet another crime. Unable to quell her curiosity she embarks on another cozi crime solving adventure. I love Fred and she is expertly narrated and is really brought to life by Angie Hickman! I cant wait for more in the series! I received a free review copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you!

Wonderfully Fun Cozy Mystery

This was just as much fun as the first one. Tons of fun, Christmas spirit, hint of romance, with a great mystery to keep up the intrigue. I would definitely recommend this to the cozy mystery readers. The narrator only added to the fun, she did an amazing job.

This was so much fun the listen to

This is a great quirky cozy mystery and Angie Hickman's narration helps it come alive. With fabulous character voices and a bright and dynamic delivery the personality of the characters shines through.

Of course it helps that the book is well written. If you've read or listened to the first book then you have pretty good idea of what you'll think of this book too. You could listen to this as a standalone, but it has spoilers for book one, so it's best to listen in order.

I'm loving the very slowly developing relationship in this book, the hint of romance helps keep this mystery cozy. Speaking of the mystery... I did not see that coming! All the clues are there, but they're carefully hidden and it took me completely by surprise.

Enjoyable mystery

This is the second book in the Cozy Corgi Mysteries series, and while reading the first book will give you some backstory and insight to the characters, it's not a necessary read to be able to enjoy and understand this book.

It's Christmas time and Fred is busy trying to get everything done in time. I will say that while this book is atmospheric, listening to it in the middle of a heatwave and feeling like you're melting away like a snowman in the desert, didn't really get me into holiday spirits. But that's just poor timing on my part, and has nothing to do with the book itself. Traitorous Toys is everything you expect from a cozy mystery. It's light, a bit quirky and puts you into a good mood. And you have a great time listening to it while trying to figure out who's done it.

There is no doubt that Angie Hickman is a very talented narrator. She has great pacing and performs the books and not only reads the words before her eyes - something that I'm always looking for in a great narrator. She also has different voices for different characters, making it easier to distinguish who's talking and following along the story. My only complaint is that her voice doesn't quite match my image of Fred. I don't know if it's because her voice sounds a lot younger than the 40-something that Fred is. Or if it's the dialogue that don't quite match up. However, it's highly preferential, and nothing that should keep you from picking this book up.

If you love cozy mysteries, have a love for determined dogs and fun characters, you should give this series a try.
