Publisher's summary

Vaughn Hall is ready for war.

The Piston Mountain Pack has been begging him to get rid of the ghosts he’s been dragging, and he’s finally ready to say goodbye to the things that built him. Everything happens for a reason, and going back to his old stomping grounds puts him right in the path of a girl he used to know. She’s different now, but he glimpses the same old kindness in her. Too bad soft humans don’t belong in Packs of rough-edged, volatile werewolves, and with Harlow, he knows she deserves better than the chaos of Pack life. Harlow is sure hard to stay away from though, and especially when she’s dredging up his favorite memories from when he and his brother were kids. How does he tell her to run? How does he tell the woman he’s falling for what he’s really doing back in her hometown? How does he explain what is hunting him and his friends? Most importantly, how does he tell her how much danger she is in just being around him?

Harlow Everett is ready for change.

She’s starting a business, and moving back in to the house she grew up in, and running like wild from any man who even looks her way. When an old friend from the neighborhood shows up out of the blue, she can’t believe Vaughn is the same person she knew way-back-when. He’s huge now, made of solid muscle and charm, but his eyes keep changing colors. The growl in his throat says he is something that shouldn’t exist, but she can’t quite convince herself to be scared of him. Not when he’s back in town helping her father out, and showing his heart little by little. Oh, he’s dangerous. All of his friends are, but the more she learns about the man he’s turned into, the more she wants to know.
Vaughn keeps hinting that some kind of war is coming for him, and she should run, right? But here is the thing about the monsters bearing down on her hometown—Harlow has always, always had the ability to see the good.

Don’t miss out on this exciting 5th installment in T. S. Joyce’s bestselling Wolves of Piston series. In the shadow of Piston Mountain…nothing is as it seems.

Content Warning: Smoldering love scenes, naughty language, and piles of shifter secrets. This series is establishing territory lines for a new Pack. If you aren’t up for wolf fights, this won’t be your jam, but if you’re up for action-adventure love stories with a side of werewolf growly-growly-fight-fights, this one’s for you.

Good story

This is just a good story for me. I struggled staying focused on it because it did not seem to move along as smooth as the others. I did like the characters. Harlow has a great independent streak and I enjoyed Vaughn’s reaction to it. He worked his magic to get Harlow to come around to him moving from the friend zone to boyfriend. Both of these two had nice growth and learned togetherness. Loved the pack time and also still seeing Zombie Wolf aka Stryker still growing and changing with every book.
