Publisher's summary

I'm a pawn, a piece of chattel, a toy - used and forgotten. When you're done with me, you can walk away with no regrets. That's how my husband sees me. I try to be the best wife possible for him. After all, he took me on when no one else would. Now - he's in debt and owes more money to the loan shark than we can possibly repay. But, don't worry, he's come up with a solution, it's just not one I was expecting. I've been traded.

Good Listen

I was fortunate to given a free copy of this book for an honest and unbiased review.
When Elena married her high school sweetheart Dominic, she never realized he'd end up being such a hateful man. He is constantly saying hateful and degrading things to her and has caused Elena to think she doesn't deserve better. When Dominic ends up not having the cash he owes the loan shark he's bored money from, he trades Elena for three months. Ashton is astounded that any man would treat his wife that way and only allows the trade to happen in order to teach Elena she's worth more. During the time Elena spends with Ashton, they get closer and closer and both fall for the other. What will happen when the three months are over and Dominic makes it clear he wants his wife back?

I loved Ashton. He may be a loan shark, but he also owns several restaurants and was a great man. He cares for Elena immediately and did everything he could to teach her how beautiful she was and show her the ways a woman should be treated. Poor Elena had been brainwashed by her husband and thought everything she did should be for him. What's sad is that you know there are really relationships that exist like that.

This was a standalone story where Elena slowly learns about herself and what she's worth. It was a story about finding love where you least expect it and for Elena about second chances. It's told from dual POVs and has a happy ending.

The dual narration was outstanding. Honey Scarlett read the female dialogue and Leeroy Will read the male dialogue a great combination.

Fall in Love with the bad boy... or is he?

Traded by Rebecca Brooke

This is a fascinating story. The main guy in the story comes across as the bad guy. Ashton is the son of a loan shark who is collecting from her husband who owes his family a lot of money. Elaina is an emotionally abused woman who is traded by her husband for time to get more money together for debt. Ashton decides to take the deal in order to get her out of the situation and show her she deserved better. The author does a wonderful job showing the inner turmoil of the woman thrust out of an abusive situation into the unknown.

This narration duo does an incredible job. I love how they read with inflection – like they truly care about the story they are reading. They aren’t scared of the sexy scenes but also put true caring and inflection following the story of an abused woman.

Definitely give this book a chance but be aware if you have triggers regarding abuse it is not one to pick up lightly.

A POWERFUL, PASSIONATE & POSITIVE JOURNEY

Rebecca Brooke outdid herself with this chilling, thrilling and sizzling tale of an abused wife and her unlikely savior who tentatively showed, enthusiastically encouraged and eventually convinced her to take back her life. It wasn't a light easy-going listen but it was easy to get caught up in this well described emotional story as two strangers slowly find out they're perfect for each other. But the true perfection of this story, IMO, didn't come from its remarkable well written chapters.. no, it came from the duet narration by two actors whose voices skilfully brought scenes, characters and emotional chapters to life. Conversations flowed easy as they each stuck to their own gender's voices and I'll be checking out more books narrated by this real-life couple.

It was meant to be a normal day for Ashton - he was in his private box at the game which is where he usually carried out the family's shady Loan Shark business.. but there was far more to this handsome businessman because he was a Restauranteur and a Chef too. Ashton thought he'd seen and heard it all - but when his next debtor came shuffling in with a very mousy downtrodden woman in tow, and then offered her to him for three months as his own personal sex slave, Ashton saw red. But he also saw the way she was cowering and just about holding herself together because he'd seen abuse before so he took pity on the woman and swore to change her life and her future. Which he slowly, tenderly, thoughtfully and very patiently did.. and he also changed his own future too because this timid woman was going to suit him, and his desires, in every way.

Elena had unknowingly married Dominic, her high school sweetheart, during a drunken night in Vegas five years previously and had been 'conditioned' into becoming a robot wife by years of verbal and mental abuse which had alienated her from everyone and everything except her Diner job. Elena accepted her life without questioning it, but when her gambler/douche husband Dominic exchanged Elena to wipe off some of his debt, it was the scariest day of her life.. but it would prove to be the best day too. Because it was going to open her eyes to kindness, caring, thoughtfulness, freedom, sexual bliss, a new career and love.. and those gifts would come from one man - the drool-worthy sexy Ashton Hawes. He would show her, spoil her, tell her and teach her a new way of thinking.. but it wouldn't all be plain sailing because Ashton's life came with problems and Dominic wasn't going to let his wife go that easily.

It was a hard listen at the beginning and I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it.. but very quickly I was put at ease by Ashton's obvious care and protection of Elena which, day by day, grew into love. And hearing how Elena blossomed and thrived due to Ashton's never-ending encouragement was sweet and he opened her eyes to a whole new sexual world.. one filled with an alpha Dom who liked to play and wanted to share his toys!!

Worth a credit? Definitely.. but it is a work of fiction because sadly we all know that in the real world abused women aren't as lucky as Elena was.

Perfectly Imperfect Way to Find Your Soulmate

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom. At first I wasn't sure I would like this story since the husband is such a verbally and emotionally abusive douche. Then he trades his wife to a loan-shark for his $200k debt, which doesn't seem to be any better situation for her. You want to not only hate the douche husband, but you want to hate the loan-shark for accepting the trade. But the more you listen to the awesome narrating duo perform the characters and bring to life their story, you find that the loan-shark may not be such a bad guy. In the end, I loved this story and the HEA for the main character regaining her confidence and Independence, along with the chance at being loved by a deserving man. I highly recommend this audiobook.

Intriguing

Who would put mod type stuff with the chance to get a young women out of a abusive repressive relationship? From the get go you go back back and forth from loving and hating the book. There is A LOT of strong language used non stop in this book. There is graphic sex acts. There is the degradation of a young women. ( this is the hate part) but then you get hooked in to finding out where the heck the author is taken you with this crazy mix. Put it this way it was no typical walk in the park . And strangely that's what made it good for me at least. I LOVED the different characters voices His so strong and her so soft and sweet added to the story itself. I received this book at no charge in exchange for an honest review.

My FAVOURITE audio duo!!!!

Any additional comments?

Honey Scarlett and Leeroy Will bring so much life to all the characters in TRADED, a story of love, betrayal and trust. Ms. Scarlett's voice is beautiful and soothing as she seamlessly takes on each female character in this book. And Mr. Will is a master of voices, his raspy voice sending shivers up and down my spine as he takes on all the male characters with gusto. I always feel like I am experiencing a movie unfolding with this dynamic narration duo. Their ability to make the reader FEEL each scene is AMAZING!!

Definition of a Romance Novel

It started off a little slow but gained momentum. The sex scenes were ok but my personal taste is for more non-verbal sounds rather than just reading. The storyline isn't quite as believable but it works for the romance. Overall I liked the book. I listened going to and from work.

Mixed feelings

Any additional comments?

Traded

I voluntarily listened to, and reviewed the audiobook version of this book.

It is definitely a book that draws you in. I liked the premise of the storyline and was interested to see where it went. A lot of the storyline was a little predictable and 'too good to be true'. Also I'm no prude, but there was a little too much detail in some places...sometimes less is more!! I'm not really a fan of sex scenes in audiobooks...it all feels a little wrong, like you're invading someone's privacy!!

I've seen some other reviews describe this book as a 'dirty fairytale' and I think that's a great description. I think there are some areas in the book that could've been explored more than all the sex and lust but that's probably my fault for not understanding the genre of the book.

I give this book 3*.

Empowering

I liked this book. The cover made me think it was dark but it was more of an empowering story of a woman in a bad marriage that meets the right person at the right time to help her get out of it and learn how a woman should be treated. I enjoyed the characters, the narration was great. I definitely recommend this book.

Excellent book

Really enjoyed this story. Engaging characters and enough surprises along the way. Only gripe was the male narrator - bit too over dramatic for me. Female narrator was excellent.

Unexpected but Great!

The summary and the cover lead us to believe that this is going to be a really dark romance, and while it has some darkness in it, it was not as dark as I was expecting. The entire story wasn't anywhere close to what I was expecting, if I'm being completely honest, but it was a happy surprise nonetheless. I love Elena's transformation as a character, we get to see her flourish and it is incredibly satisfying. Great romance between Elena and Ashton. Really enjoyed the plot and originality of the story. Excellent writing.

Another amazing performance by this pair of narrators. I love the seamlessness they are able to achieve in this duet narration. They do a great job representing Elena and Ashton. I wholly enjoyed their performance and will definitely be listening to more of their work in the future. Fabulous!!

Loved Loved Loved this book!

Would you consider the audio edition of Traded to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the print version but I can't imagine how it would be better than the audio which was fantastic. I really loved the dual narration. Both narrators were excellent and they really brought the characters to life for me.

What did you like best about this story?

The image on he cover suggests that this is a dark romance and it made me think twice about listening to it as I am not a huge fan of that genre. However, this is not dark at all. It is actually quite sweet and a feel good kind of romance. Ashton has a temper but he is a real sweetheart where Elena is concerned and he doesn't do anything to hurt her. Her husband on the other hand is a complete tosser and a nasty piece of work.
I loved Ashton's family and how they rallied round in support of Elena and encouraged her relationship with Ashton.
I also enjoyed the drama that Ashton's career choice brought, as well as the tension and suspense Elena's husband, Dominic, brings to the story. This was a book I wanted to listen to in one go. It makes me want to dive straight into book 2!
