Publisher's Summary

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and Ryu — Jane’s bloodsucking boyfriend — can’t let a major holiday go by without getting all gratuitous. An overwhelming dose of boyfriend interference and a last - minute ticket to Boston later, and Jane’s life is thrown off course.

Ryu’s well - intentioned plans create mayhem, and Jane winds up embroiled in an investigation involving a spree of gruesome killings. All the evidence points toward another Halfling, much to Jane’s surprise.

Jane is really holding her own

Bought on Audible
Book Rating 4
Audio Review 4

What I Loved: Anyan! I really love this Barghast as he is such a strong, sensible yet extremely intriguing character. The action, story, and on-going events really stepped it up in this book. It was a great follow up to the first part of the story. I enjoyed getting to know more of the players in world of which Jane is part of and also loved that her ultimate pull is back to the place she grew up.

What I Liked: It might be because Nicole is a teacher but education always seems to crop up in her stories. I like how she makes it cool to be smart and a reader. While this may not compel the story forward, it does prove that you can combine your interests and your stories together.

Complaints: To much Ryu! Though to be honest it is just because he reminds me of the sleazy bad boy that you date for awhile to get over that bad boy phase.

Audio Specific Review: Narrated by Kate Reinders and she does an excellent job. I really like the way she voices each of these characters. She even does a great job on the guy's voices!

Why I gave it a 4: The reason I give this book a 4 is because of the action, story, and how Jane ends up at the end of the story. Without giving away anything, let me just say the ending really does make you realize that Jane is really holding her own despite everything that has been thrown at her!

Who I would recommend this too: Urban Fantasy readers who like the chick-lit type of tilt. These are a bit lighter than very dark Urban Fantasy novels.

Not a pre teen book

I almost missed this book because of the cover on the first book. And the voice of the reader being so soft and young sounding. I quit the first book in the middle of the first chapter. I am so glad that I went back and finished the first book because the second and third were so good can't wait for the forth book in this series.

Good follow up

I passed on this series several times because I didn't like the cover, my mistake. The second novel in this series is full of character development by Jane and enough twists and turns to make me a believer in Ms. True. I know I'm going to enjoy the rest of the series. However, the sex scenes are a bit of a distraction so I will have to be careful if I listen to this while driving to work.

Again??

The first book started out pretty normal for a typical fantasy book, then went ALL mushy pretty quickly. These books are WAYYYY MORE romance than fantasy, and it has gotten to the point of ridiculousness!!!!

Please, Nicole, make up your mind......either go FULL ROMANCE or FULL FANTASY......The story wouldnt be half bad if you just LEFT OUT all the kissy kissy crap!!

Definitely NOT a series I will be continuing since there doesnt seem to be ANY chance of interaction between the two main characters without them ending up NAKED!!!

I'm out.....

Okay, but there's a lot better out there.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The characters are just so predictable and cliched. This really is a romance novel with a supernatural twist,

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Meh.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kate Reinders?

The narrators voice does suit the character, but that doesn't make it great to listen to.

Any additional comments?

Overall, although this is one of my current fave genres, after two of the series I just can't get past the predictability of the plot and stereotypical characters. The premise is intriguing but it's just so painfully girly.
