One of her best
This mystery has it all: a plot that never stops unspooling till the last page, with double and even triple clues; the skillfully developed cast of characters, each capable of being a suspect; and steady through it all, the imperturbable stolidity of Superintendent Battle, like a bloodhound staying on the track of the killer until he has succeeded in eliminating all the alternatives. Highly satisfying, and highly recommended!

I think Christie got too outlandish with this one. Hugh Fraser is spectacular though, and I do like Superintendent Battle.

Which Clues Are Real and Which Are Fake?
A typically skilled performance by the wonderful Hugh Fraser highlights this story with one of Dame Agatha's most intriguing motives for murder. With many of the hallmarks of her classic stories: a comfortable house with an interesting collection of suspects, a wily and astute police inspector, and enough red herrings to keep things interesting. Superintendent Battle is a surprisingly sympathetic and creative detective and fits the story perfectly. No Poirot, but plenty of clues (both real and planted).

A darker Christie
This is a darker Christie than usual. Supt. Battle who was not featured in nearly enough books is the sleuth in this one. The killer is a sociopath who makes a very detailed devious plan for the person they deem unfit to live. The "clues" here are more psychological than physical. An excellent read.

The narrator Hugh Fraser had an imaging facility to change from very different character, male, female, and even special brogues.

Intriguing story unravels a bit in the end
Another great performance by Hugh Fraser, even without his classic Poirot. The story starts out well enough and has its twists and turns but seems a bit of a stretch when all is revealed.

The intricate relationships
The plot twist was muah {chef’s kiss}. I usually see it coming in chapter one, this was one of the few times I was surprised.
