Story
It all began with Dragon Weather: a wave of incredible heat, oppressive humidity, dark angry clouds . . . and dragons. Dragons with no remorse, no sympathy, no use for humans. Dragons who destroyed an entire village and everyone in it. Everyone, that is, except the young boy, Arlian. Orphaned and alone, Arlian was captured by looters and sold as a mining slave. Years later he escaped, fueled by years of hatred for the dragons, bandits, and slavers that took away his youth - and a personal vow to exact retribution from those who have wronged him.

Story
When the foreigners confronted Sterren in Ethshar of the Spices, he was uneasy. When they all but abducted him, taking him to an obscure kingdom in the south, he knew he was in a terrible predicament. A predicament some might actually find appealing - he was by heredity the Ninth Warlord of Semma, least of the small kingdoms; he was a noble, and his rank afforded him material privileges, even in a place as insignificant and obscure as Semma. But the office also carried certain terrible responsibilities: He was to win the war the stupid king had stirred up by his arrogance.

Story
Once, not so long ago,a warlock named Vond built an empire in the southern part of the Small Kingdoms. Vond is gone, but his empire survives under the rule of a seven-person Imperial Council and a young regent named Sterren. The Empire of Vond was hardly trouble-free after Vond's departure. Its neighbors are understandably wary of further expansion, there are questions about how Vond's magic became so potent, and so on. Most of the World, though, doesn't care - Vond is off there in the southeastern corner of the World, far away from anywhere important.

Story
Ethshar and the Northern Empire have been at war for hundreds of years. Hardly anyone alive remembers why, or over what. The tempest, turmoil, and war are endless, and the killing more endless still. The war has become not just a way of life, but an institution; no one dares to dream that it could end. Not even Valder of Kardoret, Ethsharitic Scout, trapped behind enemy lines.

Story
When Michael Moorcock began chronicling the adventures of the albino sorcerer Elric, last king of decadent Melniboné, and his sentient vampiric sword, Stormbringer, he set out to create a new kind of fantasy adventure, one that broke with tradition and reflected a more up-to-date sophistication of theme and style. The result was a bold and unique hero: a rock-and-roll antihero who would channel all the violent excesses of the '60s into one enduring archetype.

Story
After the old gods warred and drove themselves to extinction, the cataclysm of their fall shattered the land of Vigrio. Now, power-hungry jarls carve out petty kingdoms, and monsters stalk the shadow-haunted woods and mountains. A world where the bones of the dead gods still hold great power, promising fame, and fortune for those brave - or desperate - enough to seek them out. As whispers of war echo over the plains and across the fjords, fate follows the footsteps of three people. All three will shape the fate of the world, as it once more teeters on the edge of chaos.

A bit long to get there, but ultimately satisfying
While the Hero may be the most reluctant I've seen, the climax is ultimately satisfying and the story remained interesting throughout. Recommended.

Not as engaging as other worlds by this author
I was happy to actually feel a little bit curiosity to know how it ended, which led to my listening to the whole book... but I never really felt connected to any of the charades, unlike some of the other books this author had written.
The narrator did a fantastic job, though!

It’s okay
Took a long time to get there. Pretty predictable no real twists it’s the hero’s journey. The BBEG (bug bad evil guy)loses for no reason other than plot armor. I doesn’t have any ties to the obsidian chronicles if that’s what you’re looking for.

bit of a drag..
Originally I was stoked, both by Saavedra and another fantasy Evans; I still listen to the Obsidian Trilogy. Sadly, this new adventure took waaaayyy too long to get started, and the main character just didn't pull me in like Arlian did. It is a decent listen, but the confrontations and character development were definitely a miss.
