Story
On February 29, 1948, Richard Wurmbrand was arrested by the secret police. His crimes? Leading Christian worship and witnessing - both of which were illegal under the atheistic Communist regime of Romania. Richard spent 14 years in prison. He was tortured, beaten, and locked into a solitary confinement cell. Sabina Wurmbrand spent three years in a labor camp, nearly freezing to death as she and other prisoners worked on the Danube Canal. She was repeatedly told her husband had died behind bars. Now, for the first time, both sides of this amazing story are told in one audiobook.

Story
The dramatic autobiography of one of China's dedicated, courageous, and intensely persecuted house church leaders. This is the gripping story of how God took a young, half-starved boy from a poor village in Henan province and placed him on the front line for Jesus, in the face of impossible odds. Instead of focusing on the many miracles or experiences of suffering, however, Yun prefers to focus on the character and beauty of Jesus.

Story
Can liberty survive in the hands of one all-powerful, unchallenged, and unelected bureaucrat? It wasn’t too long ago that the average American didn’t know who Anthony Fauci was. Now, after the coronavirus has spread nationwide, he’s arguably the most powerful bureaucrat in American history. But is it dangerous for a free society to concentrate so much power in the hands of an unelected official? Who or what holds Fauci accountable?

Story
Could you retain your faith even if it meant losing your life? Your family's lives? To many Christians in the Middle East today, a "momentary, light affliction" means enduring only torture instead of martyrdom. The depth of oppression Jesus' followers suffer is unimaginable to most Western Christians. Yet it is an everyday reality for those who choose faith over survival in Syria, Iran, Egypt, Lebanon, and other countries hostile to the Gospel of Christ.

In Captive in Iran, Maryam and Marziyeh recount their 259 days in Evin. It’s an amazing story of unyielding faith - when denying God would have meant freedom. Of incredible support from strangers around the world who fought for the women’s release. And of bringing God’s light into one of the world’s darkest places - giving hope to those who had lost everything, and showing love to those in despair.

Shows the big picture.
Excellent book, well written.
1) u will immediately realize how communism & God can not mix.
2) shows big picture. Although we disagree about small things concerning God, love is above all.
3) we (USA) are spoiled with freedom. Don't take it for granted seek to help those those w/o our freedoms find God & the messiah.

Narrator brings it to life
Out of the 100+ books on Audible I've listened to, this is one of the few that I feel is better listening to than reading the book. The narrator brings an authentic accent and pronunciation to the various Russian and Romanian names and speaks with a conviction and fervor to match the author's words. In a world dominated by headlines raging over everything, this book beautifully shows what really matters through all of it.

I never knew! disclaimer below
Even if you're not a believer. Or maybe you're just curious about Socialism. This is a very powerful book on the strength we all have if we decide to engage it. Honestly, I knew nothing about Socialism or Persecution. (Aside from the heated opinions of people on Facebook) This book doesn't have a bias, it is about one family's journey. This is a must read or listen. I liked the reader so it was a very entertaining listen. If you get to chapter 5 and you haven't found anything life altering, you have to reread it!

A MUST listen to anybody with sober thinking
What was one of the most memorable moments of Tortured for Christ?
Perseverance and commitment to be faithful of the suffering Christians wherever they suffer.
Any additional comments?
When I listened to the first 10-20 minutes I wanted to return this audiobook and something was holding me from it. If I had returned it I would have made one of the biggest mistakes in my Christian life and I would have missed what I see now as one of the strongest messages of my Christian life. The author said that when after 14 years of prison for his faith he came to the West he suffered more by witnessing what was happening with the Western Church - how the Christians in the West lost their zeal for God's teaching and diluted it with secularism and liberal thinking.
For me it is a wake-up call.
Thank you for this powerful reminder!!!
