A fun ride

John Barrowman does a great job. The story could be a real episode of Torchwood. I recommend this book if you are a fan of the show.

John Barrowman is a vibrant reader throughout the narrative!

The story is a thriller chiller! The novel is everything fans of Torchwood expect - exciting drama, amazing space visitors and cool technology. Pure fun entertainment.

Torchwood: Another Life

Torchwood: Another Life, An original dramatization based on the hit BBC spin-off of the Doctor Who series is both delightful and gripping. A top notch science fiction / mystery story, worthy to be included in your collection. Very enjoyable story with quality sound, narrated by John Barrowman who plays Capt. Jack Harkness on the television show. I enjoy the TV series and this original tale continues the adventures of the Torchwood team as it protects earth from aliens and creatures from time and space. If you like Doctor Who and Men in Black, you will love this audio book.

Another great book from Peter A

I've lived anything written by Peter since I first heard a Doctor Who book years ago, in another life (pun intended). His writing is always spot on.

Disappointed

The plot was only okay. Not even close to the quality level of an episode. I was disappointed with John Barrowman's reading of the book. He never changed his voice or his accent for the different characters. He wasn't even good as Captain Jack, his own character.

surprisingly mediocre performance and ok story

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I'd pass unless you're just dying for anything Torchwood

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I honestly can't find anything memorable

What aspect of John Barrowman’s performance would you have changed?

Everything. I concur with other reviewers on the observation that JB doesn't sound like Cap Jack in this book.

He's fantastic in all the other TW audio books. But I can't hear Jack's swagger and humor in this one. Could be the odd studio effect. Could be that the story just lacks character development. JB sounds rigid, wooden, and just flat. No character distinctions at all, like he is bored stiff himself.

Did Torchwood inspire you to do anything?

Not this one

Any additional comments?

The other Torchwood audio books with the entire cast are great. Short, yes, but satisfying. This one just doesn't live up to TW standard.

Brilliant and Truly Surprised me.

Would you listen to Torchwood again? Why?

Yes. Just love it.

What other book might you compare Torchwood to and why?

Doctor Who series.

What about John Barrowman’s performance did you like?

Wonderful. He seems alive in the reading of the book.

Any additional comments?

A really nice read from John, with a good storyline to play with.

Would have made a good episode

I know I shouldn't expect too much from a serial novel based on a TV show, but honestly... by the third time a character "fumbled" something in or out of a pocket (despite being not the least bit nervous), the AP English-level writing had really begun to detract from my enjoyment of what could have been a fine Torchwood episode if produced for television. However, if bland, unimaginative prose (e.g. "Ianto picked up the coffee pot, poured a cup, and handed it to Gwen. She set it on the desk.") doesn't get under your skin, then by all means give this book a go.
