Newcastle United marched into the FA Cup fifth round with a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa, but the real story was the shocking refereeing. With no VAR in operation for this fourth-round tie, the Magpies had to overcome both the opposition and a string of bizarre officiating decisions to get the job done.The Offside Opener: Aston Villa took the lead in the 14th minute when Tammy Abraham swept home a free-kick.

Replays clearly showed he was offside, but without VAR to intervene, the goal stood.​The Digne Incidents: Lucas Digne somehow escaped a red card for a high, studs-up challenge on Jacob Murphy. Later, Digne blatantly handled the ball well inside his own penalty area, but referee Chris Kavanagh inexplicably awarded a free-kick outside the box instead of a penalty.​Bizot Sees Red: The momentum finally shifted right before half-time when Villa goalkeeper Marco Bizot was shown a straight red card for a wild, rushing foul on Jacob Murphy.​Tonali & Woltemade to the Rescue: Newcastle made the extra man count in the second half. Sandro Tonali scored a brilliant brace in the 63rd and 76th minutes to flip the game on its head. Nick Woltemade then sealed the 3-1 win in the 88th minute, celebrating his 24th birthday in style.Up Next: Champions League Nights in Baku!​There's no time to rest as the lads are immediately back in European action.​Fixture: Qarabağ FK vs. Newcastle United​This will be a tricky away environment for Eddie Howe's side, but Newcastle are the clear favorites. While Qarabağ can be dangerous going forward—having scored 33 goals across 20 Champions League matches this season—the Azeri champions are incredibly vulnerable at the back. They have conceded 41 goals in those same European fixtures and have struggled against high-level opposition. If Newcastle can handle the long travel and the atmosphere, there should be plenty of away goals up for grabs!
