Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom. Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

Excellent Entertainment
This one was a bit of a surprise, and a very pleasant one at that:
The 1940s, a "girl band," a "girl detective," swing music, and murder! Excellent ensemble cast, reminiscent of old-time radio but with modern-time sound quality. This is one I'll listen to more than once! :)

Great Fun!
This is an entertaining presentation with a troup of actors and a band too. It's story takes place just before World War II and while the mystery is a little thin, the music and presentation style takes up the slack.

What Fun!
This was such an enjoyable listen. The actors and the music were great. Especially liked that all the songs were replayed again after the book was finished. If you enjoy music of the 40's, the idea of an all-girl band, and murder mystery's, don't pass this one by - you will not be disappointed!

Enjoyable story but expected more music !
Whilst the story is credible and has the usual murder mystery twists etc I have to say i was a little disappointed at the lack of music considering this was supposed to be a musical mystery. It took an hour and a half before the first song was played and only three songs featured throughout the drama. The narrator was cut in a forties style which worked well but she was a little monotonous and I found myself drifting away from the story at times. Still worth my 99p special offer credit though !

Outstanding
Fantastic! The best audiobook I've listened to. Atmospheric story, historically accurate and creates a feeling of the times. The quality of the characters and production was superb. The singing from Ann Hampton Calloway was fabulous and pure, not surprising for someone who'd sung for Bill Clinton at the White House!
