Engrossing story!

Loved the history, so interesting and complex. I appreciated the various threads of lives woven together.

The history you never hear

Really liked the story. The narration was great and easy to listen to. Amazing peek into the black market of japan and how it influenced the rose of the country and even how America had a hand in all of it.

A Man with a fork in a world of soup

This book is fantastic and anyone interested in Japan and the cross-currents of history, culture, crime, the underworld and politics will be fascinated. The life story of Nick Zappetti is as unique as they come and full of black comedy as well. Whiting has chronicled a once in a lifetime character as well as made the Japan(s) of his era live and breathe. Great narrator with good command of Japanese phrases and words.

Great story and great performance

This is a very interesting and exciting true story. I hope that the author will continue to write more books
