Publisher's summary

Toes Up is a brand-new collection of unforgettable horror.

Set your expectations aside and run screaming down dark corridors of inescapable terror.

A waitress in Slidell, Louisiana is about to meet Jack, a truck driver hell bent on pleasing the goddess in "Taken". A diabetic man who neglects his health pays for it in truly twisted fashion in "Vengeance by the Foot". Greg is having a really bad day at work, and can't find his shoe or his mustard in the spine-tingler "Gone". Winning the lottery isn't quite all it's cracked up to be for Gordan in "Way Out of Here". Survivors of the apocalypse find an invitation to terror waiting on their doorstep in "The Continuance Agency". Also includes "Serving Spirits", a thrilling novella of horror now available for the very first time in this collection.

These are the dark, forbidding realms that exist at the edge of sanity. No one is safe. In the end, we all leave Toes Up.

Background sound effects distracting

There are sounds like birds chirping, storm sounds, etc. that are distracting and so loud at times it’s difficult to hear the words. The writing feels really simple and sometimes awkward. Plots are interesting enough.

Music?

What disappointed you about Toes Up?

I wanted to like this collection. I enjoy short fiction and am always looking for good collections of new horror; however, I could not get through a single story because of the music played behind the readings. This may not be an issue for some; in fact, I'm sure some enjoy that. If, like me, having music played behind a reading is a deal-breaker, please be aware of it here.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The stories were decently-crafted. Honestly, it was the issue of music behind the performance that made the collection such a disappointment.

What didn’t you like about Commodore James’s performance?

His voice was fine and suited the content, I think; the tendency to over-enunciate occasionally could have been overlooked if I could have been less distracted throughout.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Yes, again, I think it's worth a purchase if you are someone who doesn't mind the noise behind the stories. I will probably revisit a couple of the stories in print because I was interested but could not listen to them read here.
