Publisher's summary

"Narrator Jennifer Hale's outstanding performance brings this story of alien invasion to life.... Hale's range of differentiation is masterly as she animates all the quirky characters Kira meets. From the rough, snarky slang of ex-military woman to the half-mad musings of a human 'ship mind,' every unique voice enhances the listening experience." (AudioFile magazine, Earphones Award winner)

The triumphant product of nine years’ toil
We first met Christopher Paolini as the teenage genius who penned Eragon and the Inheritance Cycle, a generation-influencing series, in the early 2000s. Since then, Paolini has transcended into something of a character himself. We've gotten to know his journey as a writer through his honest commentary as he toiled on Eragon's story and then To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, his sophomore effort that took nine years of grueling, perfectionist work. Now, we fans can and should cheer for both the writer and his hard-won novel. To Sleep in a Sea of Stars is a well-researched and fascinating story with a propane-propelled plot that never lets up after an explosive first scene. It’s epic, and it’s topped off with the narration of none other than legendary voice actor Jennifer Hale, who executes her debut Audible performance to near perfection. It has been a long time coming, but Paolini’s sci-fi triumph was well worth the wait. —Melissa B., Audible Editor

Interesting plot

I thought this new genre for Paolini was interesting, but feel it falls short in the story plot. Maybe I was just comparing it with the Inheritance Cycle, which was fantastic. I felt this book had a lot of "filler material", I liked most of the characters but did not feel drawn to them as I was in the characters of the Eragon series. Several places were laugh out loud funny by one of the characters, but the rest were rather blah.
Good job on trying a new genre though.

PAOLINI SHOWS WHY HE'S A BEST SELLER!

To get to the point, this book is terrific. It's well written, fast paced, with a good story that is a fairly new genre for Paolini. Everyone who read his first series about dragons probably enjoyed it. It was a good series and a very strong start for a new writer. That being said Paoline has clearly matured since then. This book is the next step in his evolution. I hope the series is long and that there are many more books to follow. The hero/protagonist is terrific, basically believable (despite being a super-powered space hero created by the melding of an ancient alien artifact onto a research scientist), and seems ready to dominate the entire galaxy. I hope she gets the chance!

I don't usually write reviews, but this book deserved a few minutes of my time. It's not your average vanilla sci-fi/fantasy rehash. It's a fresh idea, well executed, and enjoyable from start to finish. There really is no point at which the story doesn't keep you engaged.

A great ride from start to finish and proof that Paolini is a first class Sci-Fi author.

Great story, BRILLIANT performance

This is an awesome story, with many fresh and vibrant characters who are original and engaging. A few characters are archetypal, but they fit well within the world built by “Eragon” author Paolini. Jennifer Hale is delivers the absolute best audiobook performance I have ever heard. Highly recommended. It was one of those books I couldn’t stop listening to and hated to pause when I got to work.

Long but so worth it

I recently go my back into reading and found this gem in HPB. I got the Audiobook as a companion. The story is so compelling. The characters do not disappoint. If you’re into space and science fiction, this is your jam. Aliens, space travel, space fights, and more. Loved every minute of it. Not a dull part of the book.

Amazing!!!

Held off listening to this book because it just isn’t the type of books I read but eventually I caved because I loved the inheritance cycle books and so I gave this a chance and absolutely loved the story and the narration was out of this world great!
