I loved the story. It made me think of fishing with grandpa and I smiled.

Great fishing tale

A great fishing tale like my grandfather used to tell! I truly love these short stories by Bill Stokes. To me they are like those Pixar animated shorts my kids love. A short story leaving the reader completely satisfied! Great narration by Johnny Mack.

Review: To Shoot a Musky, by Bill Stokes

This was a quick story, but it held a lot without it. It was enjoyable to listen to and as entertaining as a fishing tale tends to be.

Tall fishin tale

Fishing and tall tales have always gone hand In hand. Everyone has a tale about the big one that got away. Every lake has a tale of elusive monster fish. This one doesn't disappoint. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

An Awesome Big Fish Story

TO SHOOT A MUSKY was a neat short story. I found it evocative stirring my imagination as well as memories of fishing with my grandpa. The imagery was excellent. I really like Bill Stokes writing. It's easy and effective in its simplicity yet it also has a bit of complexity as well.

Johnny Mack's performance was a perfect match for this story. His voice inflections spanned from youthful exaggeration to adulthood memories. This really worked well.

A Whale of a Tale!

I love this story so much! It reminds me so much of some of the fishy stories my grandfather used to tell us while fishing from the dam. Every lake or river has some sort of giant monster living in it, real or imagined. I've seen a gigantic snapping turtle near our dock, but the memory of it is much larger than the actual turtle. I'd have liked to meet uncle Charlie. Nice job on the narration.

A big fish tale.

Bear with me, this may seem a stretch.

Bill Stokes: aspired for a Pulitzer Prize. Ernest Hemingway, a noted novelist since the 1920's wasn't awarded a Pulitzer until 1953 - "The Old Man and the Sea".

Both have / had careers as extended contributors in newspapers.

Stokes, well known for his love of fishing. Papa, known as a prolific hunter, actually loved fishing more.

Both are beloved by their readers!

Okay, okay, remember, I prefaced this answer with "A Big Fish Tale"... muskellunge, to be exact.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Uncle Charlie and Satchel. Give a listen, you'll get why.

I have listened to and reviewed several of Bill Stokes' works and have enjoyed each of them. They are well written, humorous, personable in a way that "hooks" you in. (pun intended).

Kidding aside, I enjoy the musings of Mr. Stokes. For a light brief listen, I suggest this and any of Bill's other audio or Kindle books to listeners of any age. Whether a resident, or thinking of visiting, or just interested in knowing more of our 30th state, Wisconsin.

A homely tale!

This short story was quite cute to be honest! It evoked images of an old man, sitting on a rocking chair, telling his grandkids abut the time that he went fishing with his Uncle Charlie, about seeing the mighty Satchel and almost catching him!

This is my third book by Bill Stokes and one thing I have to say about the man, and its that he can write, and write extremely well at that. His style of writing is like very descriptive and homely. It brings to mind tales that your grandfather would tell you, of being surrounded by family and listening to the same stories again, and again but never getting bored because the storyteller can tell it well. I hope Bill Stokes brings us more books!!

Johnny Mack did a great job bringing the descriptive writing to life. His tones and inflections were well done and he made the book really enjoyable to listen to.
