Publisher's summary

A small town cop with an unexpected gift. A shadowy government agency on the side of justice. A call no good man could turn away.

When vampires attack David White's small town, only luck, firepower, and the intervention of an elite government task force saves his life. The aftermath of the attack leaves him in the middle of the world's biggest secret: the existence of government agencies that regulate the supernatural.

They insist that David's "luck" is actually a supernatural gift, and he's immediately recruited into ONSET, the most shadowy part of America's thin blue line of police protectors.

Questioning both his gifts and the agency he now serves, David is drawn into an escalating battle that threatens all of humanity. If he isn't what ONSET thinks he is, the entire world may pay the price.

Great performance by Ray Porter

A very good story over all. A law enforcement consultant could help with the “real world” technical aspects of standard police practice. I would recommend this book and look forward to future books in this series.

exceptional within the genre!

Ray Porter kills it again in this spec-ops/supernatural thriller. I love Joe Ledger, and while Sigma Force, Seal Team 666, and MHI are well done examples of this combo military thriller meets fantasy genre, Onset delivers that same X-Factor you get from Maberry's work. Great character arcs, touching moments, and masterfully visualized action. I am certainly invested in the exploits of David White and Onset, can't wait to read them all!

Somewhat predictable, but excellent anyway.

There wasn't much in this book I hadn't seen elsewhere, but the characters were interesting and engaging and the story was paced so it was entertaining without being overwhelming. The narration by Ray Porter was fantastic as always.

GOOD START OF A NEW SERIES!

I have been looking forward for Audible to publish Glynn Stewart's Onset series and at last it has arrive. Thank you Audible. As expected Glynn Stewart's new series is fantastic! I like the protagonist and his supernatural agents of Onset going out to serve and protect the people from the evil that is coming out. Very intense and fast moving series. I love it. I hope the next book will come out soon. Week worTh the wait and the credit.

What a pleasant surprise! I've found a new series

I'm in my military/spy/action thriller phase, but I love Urban Fantasy as well. (I just finished re-listening to The Dresden Files books in order.) I decided to search for books read by Ray Porter and see if there was anything that might strike my fancy. I stumbled across this book.

I actually didn't intend to start this book when I did. What a pleasant surprise! I love the world that Glynn Stewart builds. I really liked the characters, but there came a point where I found it a little difficult to know who it was okay to become attached to. The reason for the major change in focus characters make sense storywise, but it's a little frustrating to spend a sizable chunk of the book getting used to a certain set of characters only to have to start over with new characters more than 3/4s of the way in.

Because of the amount of world building required, the action plot is fairly simple. But it never felt thin to me. It felt well thought out, especially given the complexity of this world. The action sequences are well handled. I'm looking forward to book two.

Gripping

Loved this book. The narration was excellent as it was done by Ray Porter.( In my humble opinion the best narrator out there.) The story was fast paste and extremely hard to put down. I'm looking forward to starting the next in the series.

Little did David know his life was about to change

This turned out to be a really fun book. Glenn Stewart keeps showing up on my Facebook page on one of my favorite author's page and in his podcast so when Audible had a sale and I saw that To Serve and Protect was narrated by Ray Porter the next step was seriously a no-brainer!
The protagonist David White a small town cop (one of the good guys, mind you). Had no idea what he was running into when he answered dispatch. Little did he know, not even in his dreams could he have fathomed that the perps were Vampires and that there was a secret government agency Onset that protected society from supernatural incursions! Or that his life would be forever changed!
So yeah, you're gonna wanna grab this action-driven story to get the scoop! Get the audio version because Ray Porter is awesome.
