“My first lessons in spirituality and yoga had nothing to do with a mat, but everything to do with waking up. They included angels, seeing God, and being in Heaven. Except, this book is so much more than that. But, as Rachel writes, it is up to you how you come through your pain - you can come through changed for the better, having learned and grown, or stuck in place where your identity becomes rooted in what hurt you.

She had a good job in New York, an apartment in Brooklyn, a boyfriend, yet every day she wrestled with feelings of inferiority, anxiety and irritability. It wasn't until a chance encounter with a (charming, successful) stranger who revealed that she also felt these things, that Lauren set out to better understand the hold that these moods had on her, how she could change them, and began to blog about the wisdom she uncovered.

Publisher's Summary
From the New York Times best-selling author of Yoga Girl and 'international force in the world of yoga' (Allure), a moving and inspirational memoir on how to cope with tragedy, adversity and change through yoga.
To love and let go, love and let go, love and let go...it's the single most important thing we can learn in this lifetime.
While on her way to a yoga retreat in the Caribbean, Rachel Brathen collapsed in the airport and was rushed to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy. When she opened her eyes following the surgery, her boyfriend was at her bedside weeping, and she immediately knew something terrible had happened. She soon discovered that at the same time as her collapse, her best friend was killed in a car crash.
Over the next two years, which should have been the happiest time of her life with her engagement and growing career, Rachel experienced trial after trial. From the overwhelming loss of her best friend, to the illness and death of her grandmother and a shocking suicide attempt by her mother, Rachel found herself in a deep depression. When she discovered she was pregnant, Rachel decided to use her pregnancy as a time to heal and an opportunity to be reborn herself.
Now, in this evocative and remarkable memoir, Rachel shares the tools she used to cope with and overcome her depression. She invites you to share in her eye-opening epiphanies and realizations about life and death, love and fear, what it means to be a mother and a daughter, and the restorative power of yoga. Perfect for fans of Gabrielle Bernstein and Glennon Doyle, this unforgettable memoir will move and enlighten you.

I cried and cried
I’m so glad I got the audible version. Listening to Rachel tell her story was so incredibly moving, I’ve followed her since the beginning, but even I didn’t realise she had all this depth and wild experience. I was overwhelmed and cried a lot. There’s a lot of pain but also a lot of light. Everything she shares about her relationship with her mother is so raw, she is really brave and no doubt her story has resonated with so many people, and probably pushed them to invest in their healing. I loved to hear of all the synchronistic moments in her life. I feel these moments and patterns in my own and it’s nice to feel like you’re not crazy for believing wholeheartedly in divine timing. A really amazing book ❤️

Couldn't stop listening.
I listened to this in a day. I fell asleep listening to it because I couldn't turn it off. I have followed Rachel since her book came out. I'm not on social media, but I check on her now and then and briefly knew a friend of hers who said she's as real and beautiful as she seems. Her voice gives this story what words on a page could not and coming from someone who truly loves books and won't ever buy a kindle, that is surprising. It is like a phone call with a friend. I cried so many times in this for her losses felt like my own, she describes people, situations and experiences so vividly yet effortlessly that I felt like I were there. The loss of Pepper hit me hardest and I understood how she would have been made to feel as though it were less than losing a human, but honestly my pets and now particularly my dog, spend more time with me than any human ever has. Unconditional love pours from them and you feel overwhelming responsible to read their minds when they are not themselves. I felt her pain so badly. I wasn't prepared, even though I knew her back story, for such pain. I have a terrible headache and tense shoulders because I lived her losses in the last day. However, the lessons I heard and learnt were worth it all. I heard myself being described in her relationship to her Mother and Sisters and I am in the process of the distancing and restarting phase with them. Learning to not only listen to yourself but to honour the journey you come here for, is so difficult at times. We become who others need us to be when it starts in the home so young. I was grateful for finding yoga through Rachel and now I am grateful for remembering it is okay to find myself also. Thank you Rachel. This book is brutiful as Glennon Doyle says, brutal and beautiful all at once.
