Publisher's summary

Beatrice Corning, the niece of the present earl, is a proper English miss. But she has a secret: no real man has ever excited her more than the handsome youth in the portrait in her uncle’s home. Suddenly, that very man, thought to be murdered years ago, is here in the flesh. Half mad after seven years in hellish captivity, Reynaud St. Aubyn has burst into his ancestral home demanding his inheritance. Can this wild-looking man truly be the last earl’s heir?

Only Beatrice can see past Reynaud’s savagery to the noble man inside. But can Beatrice’s love tame a man who will stop at nothing to regain his title, even if it means sacrificing her innocence?

wonderful story and ending

Interesting story that had me staying up late just so I could hear the end. Even the fairytale story at the beginning of each chapter was wonderful. Such a great mix of steamy, fun and suspenseful.

Anne Flosnik is so hit and miss !

Let me start with the narration as it was the thing that worsen the book!
I think maybe it is one of Anne's earlier performances because it was not as good as her latest! She does such a bad job in make voices ! It is so unrealistic and annoying !
The story was O.K however boring sometimes where I had to fast forward. But still acceptable . If it had a better narration it might have been better.

An engaging listen

Ann Flosnik remains one of the best narrators of the Romance audio genre. The story was refreshing and different. I couldn't wait to listen on my way to and from work. One morning I actually drove past my job. I can not wait for the next ttle in this series.

To Desire a Devil. Don't we all at times!

I totally loved the end of this series and unlike some was not disappointed. For someone who was held a prisoner for so long and for woman handling her own and almost on the self these two people would know what they want. Not surprised that they were attracted to each other. She fellow in love with the young man in the portait. So when the men appears its hard to separate. I like the narrator it was one of the reasons I started this series in the first place for I own other audio books narrated by her. To each his own try the sample you won't be disappointed with the ending. I was just sorry the series ended.

Hoyt is a super star! Im in tears finishing this.

This was a great book. It wasnt as beloved ny others, but I believe the buildup of the 4 stories and the 4 men and return of the earl of Blanchard was unbelievably heart wrenching and so damned endearing. I love Reynaud, I love Beatrice. My only wish was more time for them after he realized his feelings were so strong. I'm sad this is over. What an outstanding series. I sick I've read all of Hoyt's books. Can't wait for more.

And I'm going to speak to Anne Flosnick haters: anyone who can't appreciate her after these last three books has no taste. My god, she reads a love scene better than ANYONE one audible. I hope she reads every Hoyt with perfection. I ask that listeners go back and listen to her love scenes in To Seduce a Sinner (book 2). Those are some of Hoyt's hottest written scenes and Flosnick reads with a fevered pace that got me blaming, giggling and mesmerized.

I ask that everyone hating Flosnick to put aside their first opinion. I, too, was not comfortable after Susan Deurdan and Rosalyn Landors, for this type of voice. But she has been the reader for many GREAT writers, and for their entire series. Once I got used to her, I realized that she wrings every emotion, every feeling from the words of the author. It is no wonder she is the choice of many great writers.

Finally, I want to again speak of this book alone, it is very good, but if you want to love it you should read them all. I didn't like and eventually moved on from book one. I read it out of sequence: book 3, 2, then book 4. It's not totally important that you read them in sequence, but save this for last, as it brings the old faces back very appropriately.

Super recommended! I'm very sad to have finished this series. Hoyt is the best writer of her genre of this time. She is untouched by any other author I've read writing novels at this time. In other words, my favorite authors are past their prime, but Hoyt is just getting started.
Keep them coming!!!

OK Story - Narration Terrible

This narrator does an OK job with the women's voices but should not do men. Her interpretation of the main male character was so grating, I considered quitting part way through the story. I won't download any other books narrated by Anne Flosnik.

Eh - not so much really

Some of the longest hours of my life, and I have four kids. I am sure that someone out there cares about raspberry tarts and small clothes, but unfortunately, I do not. Period books are OK and the author has a knack for the romantic/sexual portions of the book. Actually the sex scenes were the only part I somewhat enjoyed. But the overall story was a little melodramatic and slow. I finished it because it irks me to waste money. But I found myself looking forward to the end just to get it over with. Band-Aids have been ripped off with less pain. My recommendation is that the author tries a contemporary romance next time and that you should only purchase this if you have some serious time to kill and excess money in your bank account.

Good conclusion

This is the 4th and final book in this series, and it is very well written. I must say that my favorite characters were Samuel and the Scotsman but I loved all the characters.

I had to have the volume maxed out most of the time. The story is excellent!

Slightly disappointed...

After enjoying the first three books of this series, I was slightly disappointed with this book as the conclusion. The story itself was fine, but I just couldn't connect to the lead characters as I did in the previous books. If you've already listened to the first three books, you definitely need to listen to this one to wrap things up. It just didn't give me that satisfied feeling I usually have after listening to a good series. Mores the pity.
