Publisher's Summary

Explore the captivating history of the Titanic.

When thinking about the worst known maritime disaster in history, it is impossible not to think about all of the lives lost in a single night. One of the wealthiest men alive (and the wealthiest passenger aboard the ship) died in the same accident that took the life of a baby younger than five months old in steerage.

More than 100 years after the disaster, the survivors have passed on, but they left behind harrowing stories that remind us that every day is something to appreciate. These stories include love, loss, hope, failure, and everything in between. It is the tales told by those who survived that convey the feelings of that fateful night and the reality of the lives lost.

In Titanic: A Captivating Guide to the History of the Unsinkable Ship RMS Titanic, Including Survivor Stories and a Real Romance Story, you will discover topics such as:

  • A predictable, preventable disaster
  • From beginning of construction to the final launch into history
  • Basic mistakes at a high price
  • A jolt followed by the worst-case scenario
  • A more human experience
  • Dorothy Gibson - reliving the experience
  • Ramon Artagaveytia - well-founded fear
  • Two gentlemen meet their fate
  • Ann Elizabeth Isham - for a best friend
  • Love beyond duty

Pitiful narrator… adequate info

Siri would have been better narrator… robotic. I have read a LOT about Titanic. This has lots of incorrect info. It does tell several survivors stories, which were the most interesting part of book

informative

To think this tragedy could have been prevented! An informative and entertaining read! My forte is Ancient History so I really only had Hollywood's version of The Titanic in my data knowledge.

Very informative

If you require a good, fundamental history of the Titanic, this book presents. This is not only the story of the sinking. It is the whole story of the ship, including its wreck. Really love it....

To be honest

The work is good, but not great. If someone you know asks you what they should read to introduce them to the Titanic, give them this. It embraces everything.

A couple of inaccuracies

Quite interesting, but narrator says in James Cameron's film Titanic, Bruce Ismay boards a lifeboat dressed as a woman (wrong) he just got on the boat in his own clothes and Murdoch gave him a filthy look. Also, he said Guggenheim and Astor were seen helping people into boats, they did nothing to help, they simply sat down, ordered brandy and vowed to go down like gentlemen, lazy gentlemen clearly. Nevertheless, quite interesting book.
