Publisher's summary

Please Note: This content is not for kids. This audio comedy features adult language (hurled especially at one malicious, phony Kelly Smith). Discretion is advised.

In this dramatic comedy, Parks and Recreation and Good Girls star Retta brings humor and strength to her role as the unforgettable Tinaca Jones.

What’s in a name? A lot. The name Tinaca, for example, has been passed down in the Jones family for generations of women. In fact, the Joneses name a Tinaca every other generation, to let the name breathe a little. To let each Tinaca shine. And shine is exactly what Tinaca Jones intends to do.

A grocery cashier by day and household name in the making by night, Tinaca Jones pays her dues, saves her coins, and takes business and marketing classes. She spends every second readying to launch her lifestyle brand for anyone who wants to live like her - that is, intentionally and fabulously. But when a basic blonde with an even more basic name, Kelly Smith, approaches her register and peeps her nametag, Tinaca’s plans come crashing down all around her.

The next thing Tinaca knows, Kelly Smith has launched herself into overnight fame with a pathetic, old-as-time, red-carpet stunt, using the stage name "Tinaca Jones". But Kelly Smith messed with the wrong woman. What follows is Tinaca Jones’s wild and triumphant account of the battle to reclaim her name, told over the course of an epic and hilarious deposition.

About the Performer

After graduating from UPenn, Stephanie Lemelin handed her ivy-league degree to her parents and took off for Hollywood to pursue a career in acting... just like they'd always feared. Truth be told, she had been warning them ever since she learned to speak! Since then, Stephanie's worked steadily both in front of the camera and behind the mic. In 2019 alone, Stephanie has appeared on Nickelodeon's Cousins for Life playing mom Charlotte, as well as guest-starring roles on hit shows such as 9-1-1, Code Black, iZombie, and more. As of 2020, Stephanie will have been playing the voice of Artemis on Young Justice for almost 10 years, in addition to other regular characters like Rooky Partnur in Lego City Adventures on Nickelodeon, Audrey in Dreamworks' Harvey Girls Forever! on Netflix, and Eep in Dawn Of The Croods, plus she has upcoming roles in Disney's The Rocketeer and DC's Super Hero Girls, as well as starring in multiple video games ranging from Call of Duty (playing both Misty and new specialist Zero) and the villainous Screwball in Insomniac's record-breaking SpiderMan game for PS4. One could say Stephanie certainly stays busy, not to mention she's a mom of 3! Forever grateful to work in an industry that still makes her inner child jump for joy, Stephanie's adult self is equally grateful to qualify for SAG-AFTRA insurance each year—after all, those afore-mentioned kids have sweet-tooth's like their mama and need to go to the dentist regularly. An active volunteer with Moms Demand Action and the PTA, Stephanie is happy to live, love, and work in LA, and is a huge fan of everyone out there who puts their heart into their art!

OMGOSH!!!! I loved this book!!!

I was putting Christmas decorations away today and just wanted a light listen. My kids looked at me like I was crazy when I seriously doubled over during one incredibly fun and funny passage in this book. I sincerely laughed out loud!

I never send books to people because my taste is just so vast. If friends don't like what I loved, that would not be good. (Best to just keep my jewels to myself.) Not this book though!!! I sent it to my kids because they needed to know why I had tears in my eyes, and more importantly, there are few books that can be shared by Boomer and Millennial alike but this one certainly can.

Retta is the embodiment of Tinaca Jones. The interview style that is used to tell the story is right in her lane. She was so funny and so in the zone. The story was social media relevant and I could not get enough.

Give yourself the best laugh out loud moment you will probably have this year and listen to this book!

funny

This was a January audible of the month so I chose it for one of my free credits—didn’t know how I would like it from the description but it was a great choice! Had me laughing and constantly listening any chance I could!

Definitely NOT suitable for work cause you’ll laugh out loud

OK, yes there is a lot of profanity, but it is so well done, you’ll hardly notice after a while. You have to pay attention because this is chock full of pop culture and current event references, as well as phrases commonly used today, all of which lends to the story. Rhetta is FANTASTIC and perfectly cast. I want more - more Rhetta, more Tinaca!
