Publisher's summary

Two o'clock was missing.

In an alternate Victorian world controlled by clock towers, a damaged clock can fracture time - and a destroyed one can stop it completely.

It's a truth that 17-year-old clock mechanic Danny Hart knows all too well; his father has been trapped in a Stopped town east of London for three years. Though Danny is a prodigy who can repair not only clockwork but the very fabric of time, his fixation with staging a rescue is quickly becoming a concern to his superiors. And so they assign him to Enfield, a town where the tower seems to be forever plagued with problems.

Danny's new apprentice both annoys and intrigues him, and though the boy is eager to work, he maintains a secretive distance. Danny soon discovers why: He is the tower's clock spirit, a mythical being that oversees Enfield's time. Though the boys are drawn together by their loneliness, Danny knows falling in love with a clock spirit is forbidden and means risking everything he's fought to achieve.

But when a series of bombings at nearby towers threaten to Stop more cities, Danny must race to prevent Enfield from becoming the next target, or he'll lose not only his father but the boy he loves - forever.

This is the stunning first novel in a new trilogy by debut author Tara Sim.

Amazing in every way

One of the best books I've ever read. Fantastic piece of LGBT+ fiction, but that isn't the main focus. It's a romance, it's fantasy, and it's so much more than that. I couldn't put it down. I still can't, and I'm done with it. I'm making all my friends read this. It's thrilling, and wonderful, and perhaps most importantly, it has a happy ending. Thank you Tara Sim!

this book is super queer friendly and not too heavy but still engaging.

Immensely good

This was a unique world where time is controlled through clock towers. Danny is a mechanic, trained by his father. The same father that has been stuck in time for the last three years when a clock tower stopped working.

I enjoyed this alternate reality so much. You could imagine this world existing and even possibly being our own world with hidden secrets. Danny was such a sympathetic character after dealing with the loss of his father.

And the romance between him and the clock spirit Colton was adorable and heartbreaking. Colton can't leave him tower, and Danny can't just stay. But the way they tried to make it work was beautiful and will make you hope any love you have can be just as selfish yet selfless.

I cannot wait to see how thus story continues.

Looooved it. Going in for the 2:3

I really liked this book. It was so creative and had some mythology. I listen to it everyday while working. It kept me entertained. Which is difficult. This was what I was looking for. The person reading it did very good!! 🥰🕰🕯📖💚

Timekeeper

I wasn't sure about this book when I first read the discretion but I thought I'd give it a try and it's actually really good! I thought I might loose interest but I did not.

I love every element of this story

I am an adult and loved the story surrounding Danny. This is for more than just "teens". Much appreciated!

Pretty good aside from wimpy MC, depressing tone

Main character is a pushover in the worst way. I didn't enjoy seeing others walk all over him for most of the book. The gay romance was light and sweet, but I didn't like the forbidden nature of it--that just made it depressing. I liked the premise and story otherwise. Wish it was less depressing.

Great Read

All I have to say is, don’t let homophobia be the reason you miss out on a good read. It’s a great book and there is more to come in the other two books. Give it a chance. It’s worth it. Seeing people give negative reviews just because of a romantic relationship between two boys just makes me roll my eyes. This trilogy is way too good to pass up for something like that.

Understated

There was something about the narrator's understated performance that led me to feel somewhat detached from the characters and the action. I'm glad I stuck it out, as the ending was satisfying.
