The toll of traveling through time finally takes hold of Chant's young body. Now, he finds himself being stalked by Mr. Harlett's university colleagues who know too much about the Pedaler.
As if Chant doesn’t have enough to deal with, Chai’s teenage attitude only gets worse. His girlfriend Mary needs his help and support to get used to a million things completely foreign to her in the century Chant has brought her.
The people he wants to protect most are the same people he’s putting in the most danger. The security he’d found in his Pedaler journeys is now destroyed. How much can he keep from the people he loves in the name of protecting them before the secrets stack up and start to do the exact opposite?
How can he show Chai that the person she’s forcing herself to be isn’t half the girl they all know and love? Is he ready to face life after high school, without the constant presence of the Pedaler?
Chant is forced to grapple with all this and more, coming face to face with the responsibility he bears as a brother, friend, boyfriend, son, and leader of the Chrononauts, the Time Travelers he hopes will be for generations to come.
