Publisher's summary

Michael Brooks is a loner, and with good reason. A short fuse and a tendency to shoot from the hip, sometimes quite literally, mean he's all the company he's got most of the time, and he likes it that way just fine. It suits his job as warden for Wyoming's Fish and Game Department.

Being alone sounds good to the researcher for the USDA Forest Service, Dr. Seamus Rydell, especially since it means time away from the pressures to follow his family's political traditions. He'll need a guide to Timber Lake to set up his testing equipment, and who better than a warden whose boss needs him out of sight for a while?

They're just doing their jobs, until both men get derailed by a lust threatening to light up the night sky and by egos big enough to fill the wilderness.

When a psychopathic poacher intrudes, Michael's past rises up and the present twists out of shape around a sick mind. As the future for both men fills with darkness, it is all too clear no one will come back from Timber Lake unscathed.

Timber Lake is a standalone suspense thriller taking place against the magnificent backdrop of the Snowy Range in Southern Wyoming.

Timber Lake

I really wanted to Love this story because the premise sounded interesting. Its a little different than what I usually listen to since its more mystery than Romance. But I had a bit of a hard time connecting with this story at the beginning. It was a little slow starting but once you got about an hour in the story really picks up and becomes more intriguing. Overall it was ok, and I think the Author did a good job pulling all aspects of this book together. (Again, I am not a Huge Mystery/Suspense book person) But I was really happy with Nick Russo's Narration. His character voices pull you in and make you feel like you're a part of the story, and for me he really made this book more enjoyable to listen to.

Great performance; good story

In general I liked this very angsty romance. This is the 2nd in this series, but is a stand alone story. I listened to the first book and really didn’t see any relation to this one. This is the story of Michael and Seamus; although he goes by a variety of names in the story. Michael is a complex character who runs hot and cold to the point he gave me whiplash. Sometimes he is a jerk, but later you realize it is a defensive mechanism. Seamus comes from wealth and privileged but is trying to “be his own person” through his work. They met at a rodeo and have a hot (what they think) one night stand; only to find they are thrust together for a wilderness trek. Each doesn’t want to show vulnerability which results in a “I want you, I want you not” scenario that left me want to smack both of them. However, being stalked by a psycho tends to clear the mind. There is some drama and yet another misunderstanding, and in the end I got a satisfying HFN. Nick Russo does a wonderful job of bringing these men to life.
