Great story, well read...

Would you consider the audio edition of Thunderball to be better than the print version?

I read all the original book as a teenager, what a treat to hear it again in my 40's on my daily commute. Jason Isaacs does a wonderful job.

an enjoyable, albeit dated,romp

I don't recall the film so there are no comparisons here. Bond is surprisingly rich as a character. For those with particular sensibilities they will find Fleming's language and attitudes dated. Remembering the time it was written it gives a flavour for the contemporary attitudes and language. Like others I find the book surprisingly satisfying in terms of both the hero, his accomplices and the villains. The last of these being far more plausible than the films suggest.
This is the first time I have heard Jason Isaacs read and would listen to him again.

Dark Bond

Having never read the books and only watched the movies, I was surprised at how dark and cynical this novel was. It is well narrated and worth listening to, but it is also a novel of its time too.

A modern classic.

Classic Bond story which any fan of the genre should know well.
Fleming does a great job of explaining what is never acknowledged in the films: why is Bond on his own? why can't he call in the whole British military?
Issacs is a great choice for the narration, British and just upper class enough without being pompous.

Exciting, Sexy and Fun.

This a really fun romp, Fleming is on top form and there is no fat on this one at all. A new and terrible foe has emerged onto the world stage. They have eyes everywhere, they seem to be all powerful, they call themselves SPECTER, And they've got a nuke!
Bond himself is really likeable in this one and he has a great supporting cast, including the return of Felix Leiter, Domino is a great Bond girl, the plot moves at a good clip and the opening with Bond in a spar is hilarious. The only week spot is the villain there isn't really much to him but as he is merely the No2 and a pre-curser to the real master mind it doesn't negatively effect the story.
Jason Isaacs dose a fantastic job reading and the production is top notch as usual.

A more vulnerable Bond

I found this book just as good as the others. Some parts fast paced and other where Bond is more thoughtful and introspective. Will certainly read the entire Ian Fleming series eventually

So much better than the Movie

I am so glad that Audible has made the James Bond Series available. I love these books. In many ways they are different than the movies, however, the basic story is similar. I think Bond is portrayed as a more believable character who is human and not as "bulletproof" as in the movie. I thoroughly enjoy the obvious expression of the time in which these event may have occurred. I simpler time but faithfully reproduced in this and the other Bond stories.I intend to work my way through the entire library of Bond stories. The performance of Jason Isaacs is excellent too. Highly recommended.
